    Limequat's 4.2l I6 Swap

It's off a 6.6 (aren't all duramax's 6.6?). 2005-ish. The vanes are controlled via oil pressure. A pulse width modulated signal drives a solenoid that controls vane position. So what required to control it isn't that different from a closed-loop boost controller. Want more boost? Close the...

Yep, stay tuned! Hope to have it on the road in the spring. I already had a 3" turbo back and magnaflow with the 7M. For this, I'm just lopping of a chunk of the downpipe and splicing in the stub I posted above. I had considered 3.5" or even 4", but the turbo outlet is 3". Might as well...

Sorry bud, something got screwed up in Photobucket and I lost most of my videos. I'm in process of locating/uploading the rest. Here's the first two when I first got it running: Working out the cooling system: First time out of the driveway!

You're on! In a few months. Hopefully. Maybe. Thanks for the comments. No wastegate is needed with the VNT...just a complex microprocessor based control system, lol. The plan is to use a Megasquirt to take in throttle, engine speed, and actuator position, and spit out desired nozzle...

Mostly went that way because I'm cheap, should work good though. Exhaust is divided all the way into the turbine housing and equal length! winsauce's sh!t? lol

Haven't posted for a while, but it's not for not working on the beast. A lot of fabrication at this point, so the going is slow. Here's what I've been working on: From left to right they're the downpipe stub and 2 up-pipes. Welding is mostly done need to do some finish grinding and...

What about using extended suspension links instead of ridiculous wheels? This would be much better for driveability.

Cheapest/easiest: replace it with the exact same motor.

OK, just realized you said strut tower not stut bar. I have a good centimeter clearance. I hope that's enough. If not, it get's the BFH. I don't know what's up with the videos. I blame photobucket. They worked for a while then they disappeared. Thanks for the comments!

    Limequat's 4.2l I6 Swap

Do it! Thanks. Considered twins, but didn't want the hassle of 2x the compexity. Plus I love the idea of a VNT turbo, and you can't beat the price. Though it's technically a GT37, it has the compressor wheel of a GT40. Good luck finding either of those in a junk yard! The strut...

I'm going to be using the stock manifold modified by Tom Langdon at Stovebolt. Next I'll build a pair of S shaped up-pipes to feed the turbo. Hard to see from the top. ---------- Post added at 07:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:48 AM ---------- Thanks!

Turbo is bolted to the engine. Made a bracket using the mounts for the air injection and then down to the block. Another L bracket holds the top of the compressor housing. Got started on my downpipe but ran out of weld wire.

OK, wasn't sure. I've seen some/heard of some crazy twin turbo swaps. I wouldn't put it past some SM members to try to drive two GT37s off of a 7m :) Thanks, and agreed. An inline engine just "looks right" with a turbo next to the head. I'm thinking about an intercooler now. Kinda...

    Limequat's 4.2l I6 Swap

Exactly what I was thinking. I think I'm just going to reroute it. The nipple coming out of the block is actually a thread in fitting. I'm planning on replacing it with a 90 deg elbow to free up space for the downpipe. ---------- Post added at 03:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at...
