    EGR block off...

I know...pretty stupid judgment calls. We had one FA onboard today that they took a $100 bottle of perfume from. I just try to keep in mind these guys weren't hired to do brain surgery and the local leadership (depending on where) can go psycho on the directives. I never argue with an...

    EGR block off...

Yeah...know what you mean JJ. The company acually got involved and was able to pusuade the TSA to back off on crew. I went through security today without a hitch...had to take my fiberglass shank shoes off though. :3d_frown:

    EGR block off...

Well...here's a piece of wisdom for ya. IMO, the PS needs to be fixed...driving the car without it is hazardous. This kind of lesson has been beat in my head for many years in aviation...it's a lesson written by some of the most god awful accidents you can imagine and innocent people paid the...

So tell me what the Hell Happened here.

Damn right it doesn't! Summarizes what I already said nicely ;)

    EGR block off...

Well...if you ever plan on fixing it, leave the lines in place. There is no benefit in removing them. I know you're young, bullet proof, and strong as a ox...but, driving a heavy car like the MkIII without power assist is asking for an accident. If you're not worried about yourself, think...

    EGR block off...

You've removed the pump or just disabled it (took the belt off)? Why on earth would you want to drive a heavy pig like a Mk III with no PS? :3d_frown: Hope you never have to make a quick move at lower speed.

    EGR block off...

It's actually connected to the PS pump...it's called an air control valve...it's NOT a VSV. It acts as an idle up device for when the PS pump is under heavy load...turn the steering all the way left or right and you'll see it function. You do not want to bypass it. ;)

So tell me what the Hell Happened here.

LOL...sounds like a Dirty Harry movie. "Do ya feel lucky Punk...well, DO YA" :biglaugh:

So tell me what the Hell Happened here.

Well man...it darn sure didn't help. Higher compression + high boost + pump gas = BANG. Edit: The increase in compression does depend on how much material was removed from the head/block, but it adds up fast. 10 thousands from each is about .5mm. Since you're gonna be taking this motor...

So tell me what the Hell Happened here.

I would bet on detonation...that's all we have here in AZ (91 Octane). At boost over 14 psi or so, your asking for it on 91 Octane...especially if you're running a stock thickness MHG and you had both your head & block decked, raising the cylinder compression. Your AFR's look ok though..I was...

    EGR block off...

The EGR VSV on the bottom rear of the intake manifold...yes you can. Make sure you block the vac line going to it.

So tell me what the Hell Happened here.

18 psi on pump gas? Do you know what your AFR's were at full boost? You know where i'm going with this...right?

    Brake Caliper Rebuild?

I really hate to say this...and, really, I promise I'm not trying to insult your intelligence. But we had a guy on here a couple of days ago that installed new calipers and didn't bleed them before a test drive. IJ pointed out the safety concerns when doing your brakes...and he's right. Make...

    Failed emissions Help!

Yes I do understand JJ...thank you. The line from the "Ignition switch" in the diagram I posted threw me off. And as you know, I'm not the best in the world about reading these damn diagrams ;)

    Failed emissions Help!

If the TSS is stuck closed (cold position), will it not cause the CSI to function and spray excess fuel into the intake manifold? The only reason I ask is the TRSM troubleshooting flow chart (at least on an '89) indicates the TSS as a possible cause for a rich condition.

That I don't know...Here's the diagram from the TRSM if that helps.

    Failed emissions Help!

That is correct...it is referred to in the TRSM electrical diagram as "Start Injector Time Switch. However, there is a feed from the ECU between this switch and the CSI. The ECU Temp Sensor is further down on the waterneck...it's ID'ed in the picture I posted.

    Failed emissions Help!

Koulee beat me to it...but, here's a little more info. A - Is the Cold Start Injector Temp switch...if bad, it can make the cold start injector to stay open spraying excess fuel into the intake plenum causing a rich condition B - Is the Aux Fan temp switch...should have no effect on...

    not holding boost

Your wastegate actuator could be going on ya...test it for diaphragm leaks and spring tension. Same for the EVC boost solenoid...if it's not holding good pressure, psi will creep back. Could be the solenoid itself or the pressure lines going to it from the turbo.

shim the oil pump or change the jet size

Really enjoy reading your posts JJ...aren't you a little too smart to be flying airplanes? LOL ;)
