It's good for man or beast ;)

No Spark, Oil and carbon all over plugs (pics)

Well, stuff that's actually busted is a different story. That said I give up. If you want to throw parts at the car until it works who am I to argue. Good luck with it and let us know what you find.

Why do you love your Supra?

Still fun to drive but mainly because it's so reliable and cheap to own. That and it's put about $100,000 back into my pocket.

That would likely be a mistake. What are the odds of all three coil packs going out at once? And why would you shotgun something so easy to test? Ohm out the primaries as per the TRSM or test them using your battery and two wires. That said if you're not getting any tach flicker you need to look...

    Wiper fuse short somewhere....

Well, lets put it this way: If I were you I'd keep a bag of marshmallows in the car....

    code 24, 31

Thanks Mike. That kind of thing just bugs me at times. Normally the car will run OK with a 24 but rarely will it run worth a crap with a 31. That yours does is what leads me to believe it's the electronics and not the wiring. Hard to tell from here though, Nick could be right.

Whoops, working too many forums at once. I wonder what the guy with GTSW question is wondering right now since I doubt he owns a Supra. I'd better go fix that. Johnathan's right. I remember that thread now and an O2 sensor heater short to ground will blow the EFI fuse. Nice job Johnathan.

Is my supra a California car?

N/As have a sub O2 sensor. I dunno about them but the turbos have two cats. That may be common to federal cars also. If the car has an EGR temp sensor it's a Cali car. Look at the emissions sticker under the hood, that should also tell you.

Yep, or maybe that Lex AFM came with funky electronics. Btw, here we have another guy who "checked something and it's fine". No offense Mike but that doesn't tell us much. Plaaya: The diagnostic system can't detect air leaks. Codes are set based upon strict and specific conditions of the...

Ok, good deal. If you have a timing light you can also use that to check for spark. Next time you're in an auto store you may want to pick up a $5 spark tester. Looks like a plug with a big clip on it and a window to see the spark. A handy item for times like this. Repair the melted wiring on...

It's OK, we all had to start somewhere. You might want to invest in a EWD. It's an electrical gold mine compared to the TSRM. If the tach flickers the igniter and at least one coil is working. Guess you were right when you said you checked it ;). No codes (specifically code 14) is another...

    No starter signal?

Ok, fair nuff. Like Nick I also can't offer anything on a car that's been hacked but if all you have is the factory alarm try unlocking the door with the key. That will reset the alarm. Grounding pin 3 (violet with a yellow stripe) on the theft computer will also reset the alarm, same as...

I don't see oil getting past the plug seal, plus it's a dielectric. speed: *How* did you check these things? One of the things that bug me here is seeing people all the time saying "I checked this and that and it's fine" when for all I know they haven't a clue how to check things properly. In...

    Random backfire

Slo: When I mentioned leaks I was referring to the potential exhaust leaks slidebaby is talking about. I completely forgot about venting to ATM so it's likely you nailed it. Proves if you'd only buy a decent mulitmeter you could be be a killer diagnostician ;)

    Ticking noises and oil pressure...

Lol. I'm only half kidding though. OHC engines are sensitive to lubrication and need it in a hurry. It's one reason to use an oil with good cold flow properties even in moderate climes. Another case where "thinner" (in reality not as thick) is better. Oh oh....I'm stepping on the Dubster's...

idle goes down with oil cap off

Normal hot idle is around 650 for a manual with the headlights, A/C, and defogger off. Keep in mind even under the best conditions idle speed is ECU controlled and can change based on everything from electrical load to oil pressure. For high idle troubleshooting try here...

Yeah, you may be right. The outside of some of those plugs look bad while some aren't fouled. Plus the socket in the top photo is oiled. I don't think along those lines because I've never had leaks on the covers. I wonder why the car just shut off though.
