Did you guys read the TRSM on compression specs?

Hot - Yours is fine.
Bob - Yours is darn close to spec...you may have some ring wear. Are you burning oil?
Another vote for IPT...I've got one of their built trannies in my car ;)

Several guys I know have had problems with Level 10 autos...that was with them building them though. Kit wise...that I don't know.
IJ - Brake cleaner works really well ;) Acetone works too.
Use a fine 3M pad for the last touch up...it won't harm the steel.
Brake Quiet seem to work quite well as a sealer....I'm sure the copper spray will be fine too though.
Yes it does! The only thing to think about using the stock HG is plans for boost...they are good to about 14 psi or so. If you are happy with that, the stock HG is a good choice.
One other factor in this discussion in favor of a MHG. Our aluminum head and iron block expand at different...
Matt - stock 7M block and head surfaces have imperfections. That's why Toyota used a composite HG...it will "squish" to help fill those imperfections. Toyota saved $$$ by not making the 7M block/head surfaces very smooth.
A MHG is a different story. It is multiple layers of flat precision...
Look...you are defending a position that has no defense.
Ask any machinist about using sandpaper to surface a precision surface. That look of disbelief on his face is real...there is no way you can convince me or anyone else here that sanding a block to resurface it is the right way. It's...
BTW JaV - You've seen me post no telling how many times about using a spray sealer on a MHG. Well...if you end up getting IJ's 3mm Cometic, you want to use a sealer. It's used...there is no more factory sealer to turn into goo ;)
JaV - Just be careful about the MHG thickness you use...you def don't want to increase compression any more than the Wiscos! When you start boosting, control it in increments monitoring with a wideband...don't need no stinkin detonation :runaway:
BTW...the 3mm IJ has could just be the ticket ;)
What pistons you use makes a difference...here's a few compression ratios:
JE - 8.4:1
Ross - 8.5:1
Wisco - 9.0:1
Increasing the compression a bit is not necessarily a bad thing. The lower compression pistons allow you to add more boost, effectively increasing compression. If you use...
Yeah, I have...not much to say but it's a PITA. Had to do it in a grocery store parking lot too...I think it blowing had a lot to do with my HG failing shortly after. I think the only thing worse under the hood is installing an EGR valve...that one beat my right hand up pretty good.
No...
Well...I thought it was 1.0mm myself. IJ corrected me in another thread...I'm very sure Ian knows what he's talking about
I did the same as you. Used a 1.30mm Cometic and had a total of 0.010" removed from the block and head. My compression runs 150 +/-2 psi across all...
