Doh! Of course you're N/A, we were talking about caps and rotors before. Never mind ;). Too bad you don't have ready access to an ignition scope. It'll instantly tell you if it was ignition and in what cylinder.
Sure it's an ignition miss and not a loss of fueling? Does it do it under mild boost? Say 1-3 psi or above? I recently encountered what sounds like a similar problem. Was driving the owner nuts. Turned out to be a fuel pump relay that'd failed internally a certain way. When the ECU switched the...
If I read that right he's referring to the cold start injector thermo-time switch and not the EFI coolant sensor. If so a disconnected TTS wouldn't cause this symptom. Besides, it only receives power during cranking. That said it could be the EFI coolant sensor delivering a lack of cold...
Not bad engine, bad owner.
*How* did you check those things? I love it when someone says they "checked" something. For all I know they haven't a clue how to do it right.
Last time I'm gonna say it: fix the code 51 first. As long as you have it there is no hope of the idle being right.
Perceptive you are. Fwiw I work with a guy who actually did install a thrust lever quadrant on his car when he was younger. Drove it for a week before almost killing himself and yanking it off. Said it looked cool though.
It has to be a bad BOV right? Doesn't matter that a bad one couldn't cause these symptoms. And it couldn't possibly be something done wrong to the car while "fixing" it. Fascinating.
The dead giveaway is the turbo...
Off topic so I'll get them all at once:
dcrusupra: Ha. Anyone who says a D owner is "lucky" because he doesn't have to wax is clueless. It's a huge job keeping it clean. Just touching it makes a mess and for some reason everyone is compelled to do so. Grrrr..
If you think a Supra can eat an...
Vacuum lead? Fist off? "Through out"? Lol...you've got balls, I'll give you that. I'm usually a stickler for spelling but TSRM occasionally trips me up because nowhere on my copy is that written. Just says Toyota Repair Manual but since the online copy says TSRM I'll concede. As for CEL the...
We all have a problem? How is that?
The first place to look would be the TRSM. The second would be at the CEL with the diagnostic jumper in. Your symptoms indicate a possible lack of ISC system activation because the TPS is not adjusted or bad. If you get a code 51 with the throttle closed that...
I'll second that. Get a good dye like Tracer Products (avoid the Interdynamics brand) and you won't even need a light. I keep the stuff in my oil, coolant, and AC at all times. Makes leak finding a breeze. I use the light only on the tiniest leaks.
He would've gotten the oil cap seal in the kit too ;)
KA: Other than turbo to manifold you could make every one of those gaskets for pennies and if you bought the right material they'd be better than factory. I long ago tired of having jobs stalled for gaskets so I bought a gasket punch set and...
Well, you didn't misspell misfire until you spelled it missfire. (Btw "misspell" is one of the most commonly misspelled words in the language). I'm pretty sure you screwed "critical" up though ;).
The condition of the rotor and cap in a distributor based ignition system is important because...
Ugh. 200mm? Looks expensive. I once saw an operator drop an entire boat of finished VLSI 200s. Fwiw you're talking to one of the first 50 employees of Lam, an original service engineer who was later on the Rainbow design team. That was in the days before I became dumb enough to work on...
bluepearl: Very well said. Couldn't agree more.
Colin: Send that guy over here. My Delorean requires scrubbing with Scotchbrite as part of it's normal upkeep. It's not a fun job ;)
Oh sure, he should open it up before tossing it. I'm a huge believer in that. If haven't see it before nothing goes in my trash without an autopsy.
Or he could send it to you for sputtering. I'm sure your techs would love to clean crap out of a vacuum system ;)
