Good job. The code 14 was from your CPS not being driven properly. "Phantom" or not (it's a computer you know) as long as the ECU sets a code 14 there can't be injection. The fuel you smelled was because injection isn't halted right away. It takes several missing IGf pulses before the injectors...
Since you've already got the coolant drained and hose off I'd pull the housing and do it in a vise. Those housing bolts and holes aren't all that strong so it's not wise to be loading them. Next time try cracking it loose with the engine at operating temp, then remove it after cool down.
Money or time. Takes a lot of it for sure. Maybe what he was getting at was how the O2 sensor would react to the change in emissions and what would happen to subsequent injection. Either way I agree with Nick: the guy should fix the car right instead of "cheating".
I hear ya. The thread is weird to begin with. "Shine a light on it?" Is that an intentional pun?
Johnathan is still learning but he's OK. Coming along well all things considered. Still rough around the edges though ;)
Wow 3p, I've seen them take a while but 7 years has to be some sort of record.
The OP should take your advice. I'll add pressure testing. UV dye is helpful. I keep it in my system at all times.
Alternator is typically around 90 bucks. Assuming you had the most common type of failure you could've fixed it yourself for about 7. I still have the same one that came on the car. Cost me about $20 in parts to rebuild it.
Edit: I was asked in a PM for bearing numbers:
Front bearing: Koyo...
Motorist asking directions: "Can you tell me where the train station is?"
Farmer: "Don't know"
Motorist: "Well how about the airport?"
Farmer: "Don't know"
Motorist: " You don't know much do you?"
Farmer: " I know I ain't lost".
5-20 is what I've been using for some time now. In fact my engine has never seen anything heavier than a 30. It'll be 20 years in June with zero problems. Not to mention most everyone is NASCAR is running 20W these days.
I say lets move on. Jake is no dummy but in this case it's clear he...
Auto stores in Florida sell slim jims? Lol, damn. What a country. In many states it's illegal to own them.
I agree with cj. Fwiw the MKIII has to be one of the easiest cars to slim jim I've ever seen. I can do one in less than 5 seconds. It'd take someone without practice all of 15.
