    Rain-sensing Wipers...

There have been many types of ARS tried over the years but the one that works best projects an IR beam into the windshield at a 45 degree angle. If I recall correctly most newer cars that have ARS use the TRW sensor: http://tinyurl.com/2njnru Here's an aftermaket sensor using the same...

Woo! Head Gasket Boom Boom! Yeah!

Just a note: The last HG kit I dealt with from Toyota had aluminum crush washers. Different torque spec of course. I'm seeing aluminum used a lot these days.

HELP! Car running like crap after BHG fix

What he said. So the timing was 180 out? Good grief. I continue to be amazed so many have trouble setting valve and ignition timing on this engine.

Woo! Head Gasket Boom Boom! Yeah!

Meh, just reuse the old gasket or get one at a parts store. Or anneal the old one with a propane torch. It'll be as good as new. The fuel pump in the GTE doesn't run until the key is turned to start. Jumper it at the block to pressurize the system.

    yet another 'wont start' threads

Probably aren't any professionals in Mechanicsville ;) What do you mean "changed connectors on the harness"? Does that mean at the ECU or sensors? D you have an 89 ECU? Answer Jdub's question: Are the ground wires connected at the lower rear of the intake manifold? Does the check engine...

    87 Regular gasoline...

http://tinyurl.com/2v6d7 Section 6 I run 87 on a lightly modded engine and let the knock control system worry about it. It's what my manual calls for. Zero problems so far (19 years 11 months). I've got more important things to spend money on than octane I don't need.

Woo! Head Gasket Boom Boom! Yeah!

Err, anytime after you've had the fuel system open you should jumper the pump and do a leak check. It also pressurizes and primes it for the start. Yours wouldn't be the first car to burn up from not doing this.

Well, you don't have to remove the head to change stem seals. There are ways around that.

    Overheated while at idle...

On a cold start you should hear the fan for a few seconds and then it'll drop off. On a hot engine the fan should run at about 45% of water pump speed at idle. When the rpm is brought up to 2500-3000 you should both see and hear the fan speed drop off. If you're not sure you can use a timing...

Dim headlight, need info on rewiring.

The loss of 1 volt robs the typical halogen lamp of nearly 27% of it's rated lumen output. This loss is typical in most cars even with new wiring. To overcome it use new relays located at the lights, use the stock circuit to drive those relays, and wire #10 fused feeds to the battery or an aux...

No Spark Issue - This is the strangest behavior I've seen

Be sure the igniter case is well grounded. Check that all coils are receiving 12 volts referenced to the intake manifold when the key is on. Then put a test light across each of the primaries and see if it flashes when the engine is cranked. You can remove the CPS and spin it by hand to make...

HELP! Car running like crap after BHG fix

Not exactly. It doesn't work the way you said but since the end result is timing will be retarded it's close enough.

    Low idle, hesitation

Pirate air, bad compression, valve lash, valve leaks, or timing, restricted exhaust, ignition timing, bad brake booster, HG, could be lots of things. Is the reading steady low or pulsating? What is vacuum off idle, say at 2500 rpm? What is cranking vacuum with the EFI fuse pulled? Sounds like a...

    Low idle, hesitation

Ok, maybe I misunderstood. Are you offering up the 10 hg as merely a symptom or are you saying you know it's not right but can't find out why it's low? You must feel it doesn't have any bearing on the problem or you wouldn't have asked about plugs, ISC, and the TPS. In other words why haven't...
