The way I did it (before I replaced the harness) was get a CPS connector and wiring from across the top of the motor from a scrap harness...the wires were in much better shape than mine. Then I spliced right before where the harness ducks down between the intake manifold and head/block. You...
H = Harness
C = CPS
Red C - Blue H (NE signal)
Green C - Red H (G1 signal)
Yellow C - Yellow H (G2 signal)
White C (might be Brown looking) - Black H (ground)
On the CPS, take a good close look at the blue wire (harness side); trace for any breaks, brittle areas, etc across the top of the motor. Also look at the wire it connects to on the CPS (it's red on mine)...same thing, trace into the CPS.
This is the NE signal wire...it provides engine rpm...
Boostadikt - It was a joke sent to me sometime back. I was just pullin Jay's chain. ;)
I actually have a very good relationship with both my kids, but they do know my limits and those limits are reasonable. Teenagers are going to keep things from their parents, regardless...just the way it...
I understand...when my car was doing this (same code too), it did it at random. It even cut off sometimes while running. It's not the connector, it's the wires leading to it...In my case, it was the ones from the connector going inside the CPS.
Jay - But a shotgun is so much more effective and you can be cleaning it when "company" comes over to visit your daughter :naughty:
My daughter is 15...going on 21 (at least she thinks so). I've got something to help ya out:
"Ten Simple Rules for Dating My Daughter"
Some thoughtful...
Listening to the 1st vid threw me off too...it was a lot quieter in that one, so I don't think it's that bad yet. If she does the plug trick cold and it quiets down at all, then I'm def say it's rod knock.
I turned the volume way up and it sounds more like a "clack"...and it's deeper and more 1:1 with the rpm than I thought.
That's not good Jen :3d_frown:
Yellow - I'm gonna backup and lean more to what you were saying...It does sound like the beginnings of rod knock. When she pulls the...
It's the ticking sound that's making me think valves...I wish I could hear it in person. Pulling the plug wires should tell the tale though ;)
besides, I'm pretty sure Jen babys that car and it's never gotten low on oil ;)
You might have a sticky valve due to carbon buildup. Pull the plug wires off one at a time off the coil packs...if the noise stays, it's probably a valve sticking or needs adjustment. If the noise stops, rod knock is def possible. Rod knock will be most noticible at a certain RPM range...say...
I'm thinking you may have a bad valve or you may have thrown a shim (not likely though)...you could check the valve clearances to find out.
Piston slap sounds a little different...kinda like a diesel when the motor is cold (mine does it). It's most common on the shorter forged...
I'd get a one that hasn't been turned yet...try to find a 7M crank (vs a 6M found on pre-'89 and some '89 motors. The 7M crank is a little heavier, but it's better balanced.
That's exactly what a stuck thermostat will do...did you feel the upper hose to see if it was hot when the gauge went up? Just want to check...you did install the thermostat with the spring inside the water neck and the bleed hole on top?
You need to get a new radiator...when I replaced mine...
