Knock sensor problem and how to fix it

You both had the same symptoms as a result of different causes. What you did was right. In theory what he did could cost him his engine.

So ya know how i wanted to relocate the battery?

lol. A heavy box full of lead and acid that makes hydrogen and O2 and is capable of delivering many hundreds of amperes in milliseconds. Nah, no need to take messing with that seriously ;)

    LED fog lights?

Lol, I understand. My bad. I saw the word luxeon and went from there. I see now what you were getting at. Regulators and buck/boost circuits are nice for stuff like flashlights but in a car simple current limiting by resistor works fine. I seldom get involved in these lighting threads because...

    LED fog lights?

Well yeah, he could but he asked about leds. Not to mention HID in anything but a properly designed housing is a step backwards as far as being a true lighting improvement goes. They look cool though. Seems that's whats matter most to people. Go figure.

    LED fog lights?

Just fyi 3p, Luxeons are old hat. Cree and Seoul Semiconductor are where it's at right now. Twice the efficiency of Luxes. The latest Q5 Cree XR-E will do something like 125 lumens at 350 ma and 200 when fully driven. Impressive devices. I've been using them on cars where I install color organs...

little radiator fan and condensor fan help

No wonder your surpa is imperfect. The condenser fan isn't supposed to run all the time but it won't hurt anything if it does. The particular way you mickey moused it is electrically bad though. You've now loaded the crap out of the magnet clutch circuit. It's not designed to handle that much...

    Coolant filter pix

I knew it. Now 3p is going to go over my engine with his evil eye. Damn engineers ;) It's a MotorGuard bypass filter. Smaller evap canister located below. Before you nail me on the EGR it's off for a valve repair. Leaking at the pintle shaft. I'll get to it. No way I'm gonna pay Toyota's...

    Coolant filter pix

^ lol... Colin, other than the constant tension clamps on the coolant filter every clamp on that engine is original. In fact nearly everything you see on that engine is original. It's why I was a little pissed about busting the fan. ViR2: Ya, it filter good....

    Coolant filter pix

Thanks guys. Lol @ 3p. He knows I busted my original fan during a moment of stupidity. Fwiw that fan isn't new. Came out of a junkyard. Amazing what hot soapy water and scotchbrite will do. Thanks again to the guy who procured it for me.

Hey, we have good taste. What can I say about the fan, I have a lot of prop paint lying around and was bored that day ;) Nick: Thanks....I think ;)

    Coolant filter pix

Here's a pic. Yeah, I admit to being anal about filtration. All my cars have coolant, PS, tranny, and bypass oil filters on them. There is stuff in every cooling system, especially if one uses silicated coolant. I don't but nevertheless filter what crap gets generated out. Junk can come from...

    Electric vs. Mech gauges.

Meh, what does Google know ;) Gage/gauge isn't included but here's a site I'm fond of for other confusion: http://tinyurl.com/yrlp7n Lol, not that it's likely to have any impact on this place...

    Electric vs. Mech gauges.

Who me? I've always spelled it that way when referring to this kind of thing. As an engineer I was taught "gauges" are used for making dimensional measurements ie; gauge blocks, plug gap gauge, ect, while "gages" are used to display physical world variables ie; heat, pressure, ect. The terms are...

    Coolant filter pix

Changed my coolant filter yesterday. Thought you folks might like to see it. Coolant and filter has 1 year and about 10K miles on it. Only a portion of the filter media is shown but all of it was like that. This is a well cared for cooling system with a total of 40K miles on it. Inside it looks...

    code 24, 51, 52

52 is the knock code and of the three you have it's the one hurting you most. They all need to be fixed but it's the 52 that's killing your performance.

    BHG within a week? :(

You torqued ARP bolts on a MHG to the TSRM spec?

    Electric vs. Mech gauges.

Fwiw almost all small aircraft use mechanical oil pressure gages with lines run into the cockpit. They have an orifice installed to prevent that sort of thing. Any decent automotive gage will also have one.

    Sticky window switch

I've also pulled my share of them down. Last one was to increase the brightness of the leds by changing the resistors. They're definitely 10 pounds in a 5 pound bag. Toyota even has a little manual for working on them. And yeah, generally speaking, spraying lubricants into electrical gear causes...
