    Spark plug Question

Had the Autolites and experienced the same miss with MSD wires. Switched to NGK iridium's and it completely went away. The Autolites are good plugs...they're just a bit too short. Take a look at this thread...last post: http://www.mkiiitech.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=893

    Spark plug Question

There's a reason for that ;) Depending on your wires, the Autolite 3923's are about 1/8" shorter than stock. It can make a poor connection with the wires, cause arcing, and hence a miss. If you want to use copper plugs, try the NGK BCPR6ES or one step cooler, the BCPR7ES Denso plugs...

does an n/a head fit the turbo bottom

The heads are identical...it's the cams that are different. The NA cams will shift the power band, but no huge gains in power on a turbo motor...the NA cams can actually hurt the top end a bit on a turbo motor.

does an n/a head fit the turbo bottom

NA head fits perfect on a turbo block...the cams are different though from a turbo head. The knock sensors ore on the driver's side of the block...the NA has one sensor, the turbo has two.

RM - You more likely referring to an E-9...the highest enlisted rank. In the USAF, that is a Chief Master Sergeant...the Army & Marines, a Sergeant Major...the Navy, Master Chief Petty Officer. In the USAF, a Master Sergeant is an E-7...the Army & Marines, a Master Sergeant is an E-8. You...

Difference in JDM 7MGTE and non-JDM?

The ECU is different. Main engine harness is about 18" shorter. The block water line is usually a dual use...plug on passenger side for Lt hand drive...plug on drivers side for Rt hand drive. I've only seen USDM lines with no plug on the passenger side.

Brewster - That will keep me busy for a bit ;) Are there any other differences besides the motor and ECU on a Supra?

    1j Rod Knock

Actually I meant the stock ECU...you know, how it works and what control parameters. Similar to the manuals you can get for the 7M and what's in the TRSM. You know I'm a tech type when it comes to this stuff Joe..lol ;)

Great link Brewster...I'll pass it along to my friend ;) Is there a TRSM available for the motor? What about the ECU?

Yeah, detonation will kill ANY motor too. Sorry to hear that Joe. The reason I asked about freeze plugs is my 7M blew one...I was able to go down to the dealer that day and get it. Car was running the next day. Not a slam on the 1J...like I said, it sure looks like a good motor and a good...

Mostly I meant a part you need to get the car running ASAP...like suppose you blow a freeze plug and you want to use OEM Toyota, how long does it take to get? BTW - just out of curiosity, what caused your first 1J to bite the dust?

Special order from Toyota? Or where? What kind if time frames are we talking about to get parts?

^^^ You got that right...of course mechanical engineering means nothing to these types. And there's a couple of them running around here at present. I actually like the 1J...it's not for me, but it looks like a good motor. It's big downside is the availability of parts...getting specific...
