Meh, my car and the clip are already at his shop. Other than not knowing much about a few aftermarket parts, I think he knows his stuff about the swap. He said he and his fellow mechanics there have done many many 1jz swaps.
I woulda done the swap myself but I'm a fulltime bio major and am...
What diameter is it stock?
yeah, i dunno about this guy. he also wanted me to go with tokico struts and tanabe springs and use the tems as opposed to tein flex coilvers...He says that the tein flex arent electronic and are only adjustable from outside the car...
jarco are the ones who...
The mechanic also said that I should just go with a downpipe since the stock one is 3" anyways. I thought the ypipe was the weak point for 1jz's...is it 3" stock like he says it is??
Showed the mechanic the link to the ypipedp combo on the 935 website and he said that the dp wont reach the cat and there will be fabrication that will need to be done...Is he right or wrong about that?
so this mechanic who's installing a 1jz clip for me says that no one in the us sells a downpipe with a y-pipe included. i thought i remembered seeing quite a few places who sell the combo. can anyone post up some links if this is true to stores who have them?
thx!
he said he'd purchase and install them for me.
ya, maybe thats why I've never heard of tanabe coilovers on this supra forum ^_^
I guess I'll tell him to just go with teins.
btw, offtopic question: whats the stock psi for 1jz? is it 8lb?
well i took my supra along with the 1jz front clip to a mechanic yesterday. told him i wanted some tein c/o's (probably flex) but he said that tanabe makes good suspension. I've only heard good things about tanabe exhaust systems, not their suspension. Any input? Tein flex + mdfc or tanabe...
Finally got the 1jz clip up onto a trailer with my dad (been sitting in my lawn for almost 2 months now). Gettin ready to take her down to the mechanic this friday along with my '88 :evil2: .
Hm, I'll take a look at those. I just thought there might be some online store that I could just order one from.
See how messed up the front right lip and fender is in my sig? Ya, its about 10 times worse now lol...Stupid 4 foot deep ditches on the side of the road :P
So iirc, I read that the supras have 18.8 gallon tanks right? Well when my gauge hits zero and I go to pump it up, it only takes like 12 gallons to fill it up. I thought it must be a problem with the pump so one time I just tried forcing more gas into it. lol bad idea...
Anyways whats the...
$3000 for a clip (w/r154) + $1500 labor isnt too farfetched. Thats what a mechanic quoted me for the job and that includes him buying and installing new seals all around.
wow thats a couple hundred cheaper than I picked up my '88 nonturbo for with the same mileage. And it wasnt in as good of shape as that one! Nice deal!
