I had a K&N that was on the car from the previous owner, and as soon as I found out about the oil + AFM = bad, I switched it out. I picked up the AEM Dryflo filter and honestly, it was roughly the same price as the equivelant K&N anyway. Do it right from the start ;)
Previous owner had a BHG and rebuilt, but the head had annealed. After 15,000km of myself owning it (a total of 25,000km after the rebuild) I found myself with cracks in the head.
Intake/boost leak is a possibility, but with the MAFT hooked up it's going to be hard to tell whether it's that or something with the MAFT wiring. Any way you can put the stock AFM setup back in and eliminate MAFT wiring for sure? That would be my first suggestion.
Just so you know, the 57 trim DOES have the potential of putting you in the range of fuel cut on cold days if you've got a decent intake/exhaust on the car. Just so you're not suprised if you hit it.
You're selling your car Randy? Just one question....why?? You just said it yourself..."I believe I have reached the automotive nirvana of the mk3 Supra" and now it's up for sale? lol
It's a beautiful car though, I hope you get what it's worth :)
Poodles is exactly right. What most people don't realize is even though you're freeing up the belt off the clutch fan, you're alternator is going to be working harder to provide that extra power. Seeing that no form of energy conversion is 100% efficient (kinetic -> electrical -> kinetic)...
Even if I am paranoid and check for white junk under the oil cap regularly, and make sure I haven't lost coolant since last week, I still thoroughly enjoy my car :) Having done so much work on it myself, just driving it and having it all work properly (for however brief a period as it may be)...
You can't see too well whether that's smoke or steam coming out of the tailpipe, but it's definitely not normal on a nice warm engine. Was the engine warm already? I wouldn't have been doing that with an engine that wasn't at temp yet, but that's just me.
It sounds like it has a bit of a miss...
You put on your new catback in the morning with cat in, go through smog/aircare in the afternoon, and have the cat out by dinner time (while it's still a regular week work day as well).
