Also, a small amount of grease on the tip of the input shaft (and I mean small, you don't want it to contaminate the clutch) helps a LOT. You should have also greased the shaft per the TSRM as well...
Wastegate is activated by pressure, as long as there is air the turbo will work to hit that pressure. It's why minor BPU 7MGTE's can beat the snot out of vipers at elevation as they're not as effected by the elevation.
Keep in mind most of the benefit is going to be from replacing the old...

Yeah, coming from someone that's done it in car, yes it SUCKS. Get the real Toyota gasket as it's a metallic gasket unlike the paper gaskets in the cheap gasket sets (felpro included) that blows out and makes your life a living hell...
Might want to go look at dyno charts as if it's over 3K it's boosting and making more torque/HP than the N/A. Only advantage the N/A have is response which usually is the "jump" you'll see from a roll (near non-existant with a BPU 7M in the right gear).
