That's the drain for the spark plug wells. More than likely the cam covers are leaking.

Yes, and the mishimoto is obviously too large and that's where the cooling capacity comes from... As for a trend, early square mounts vs the later fluid filled ones comes to mind...

Incorrect, most run a fresnel lense (cibie, hella, all other major brands I can think of). You have to find the cheap ones on ebay with the clear glass on front.

It's an insulator, if you don't like your paint, go ahead and leave it off. Also, removing the rubber seal will negatively effect cooling at speed (base of windshield is a high pressure zone). The hood isn't truely sealed anyway as it's open on the sides. It's a turbo car, get over the heat...
