Well, I'll ask this, can you catch your fingernail on the ridges? Seen ridges show up in photos and not be actual roughness on the surface.
Regardless, anything that shop did is in question now...
Admittedly it's probably flat and fine, they just didn't cut enough off (looks like bad erosion). Fire rings will seal, doubt the coolant rings will seal though...
If it's the coolant temp switch, that means your coolant system isn't up to par. More than likely it's the high pressure switch if it's not the coolant temp switch. Install a pusher fan to help if that's the case...
Tranny has to come completely out because the pressure plate and clutch disk will be in the bellhousing. Also, you're want to replace the snap rings and washers on the throwout bearing hub assembly (and make absolutely sure it's assembled correctly or it WILL fail).
