well now i dont have any idea. how do you know it's rod knock? i have a disheartening knock sound on startup but determined its my clutch. i found this out when i heard a substancial difference in sound when i took my foot OFF the pedal. my un-educated guess (i dont know jack about clutches...
my leak was the hose that attaches to the firewal to supply the heater with...heat. forgot to clamp it and its hard to see. it dripped down my firewall and down the frame, and even made it to the REAR wheel. yes, i had a small drip of coolant just in front of my driver-side rear a-arm...
thanks for condensing it. you can try quoting my whole post or combine several into one post using the html tags...
the back bolt can be reached with a an extension bar on the socket and a socket wrench, and all this is done with the intake removed. you might be able to do it with the...
ok. you can look yourself too maybe... if you havent already. i cant think of anywhere else it could leak from though without going and looking at my engine. i could but i have a pretty good memory and dont remember any oil lines on that side of the engine.
there is a slight possibility...
before i go on, please try and keep your posts condensed into one...it helps the readers. if you must differenciate you can use something like "----EDIT---" where your post has changed and type the new after that.... with multiple posts its more difficult to reference what you said.
did you...
like boost said, its fairly easy to see how the alternator is adjusted.
there is the main pivot bolt on the top-left where it bolts to the engine, this doesnt need to be touched unless the last person to tighten it really made it tight (the alternator wont want to pivot until you loosen this...
the dizzy o-ring is probably crap. (maybe...its probably what your friend was talking about)
what year is your car and has it been replaced? mine was ROCK HARD and broke like plastic when removed...i had to cut/break it. its just one o-ring on the shaft housing of the distributor.... if it...
BHG's dont cause the fan to stop and the parking brake light to come on.
dont make the guy too worried, BHG is possible but it sounds like a simple belt problem...its definatly a thing to keep an eye on...but he didnt mention any really high temps....
unless he forgot.
what do you mean when you say the pulleys/belts are stiff?
all the belts should be tight and difficult to wiggle around when properly installed. as far as spinning the belts, dont...it wont work without turning the crankshaft...
well i'm just guessing about the ECU, it makes sence but i was hoping for a person with further knowledge knowing...but first things first...you said the fan didnt move and thats definite problem.
to remove the fan belt, you have to loosen some bolts on the alternator, there is the mounting...
no hole then. try and check the side of the head for oil...its the only way i can see it coming down, UNLESS oil is leaking from the front of the engine, and following the coolant pipes or block rearward and somehow going up your filter. i'm talking about the two metallic (or black if covered...
did you do it yourself? could be a hole in the filter maybe? it would be pinhole size but hey...anythings possible.
there isnt anything i can think of below the exaust manifold that could leak oil besides the oil dipstick or the oil filter itself....did you look at the head just below the...
if you REALLY want the figures i will get my recent BHG receipts and tell you the exact friggin price.
as for a fix. buy a new one. period. dont waiste time on BLING because unless you relocated your alternator (i hope not) or removed it...you will NOT SEE THIS HOSE!! so bling factor is...
read my last post. i explained some of my educated guesses.
take your alternator/fan belt OFF . your fan can spin without the water pump spinning at ALL and nothing will move with that huge main pulley holding them stationary. its easy to remove the belt and not too difficult to re-tighten...
is the power steering electrically modulated?
as in...is the steering position/inputs sensed electronically?
if so... that loosing power would cause the power steering to lock up IMO (i dont KNOW this...but it makes sence)
if your alternator or water pump seizes, that belt will slow or STOP...
I have an 86.5 and i would LOVE to buy a set of clear fronts, which BTW i think you could sell a LOT of... i dont know about the rears though... i'd like to see the older style rears without the orange....then i'd decide. sounds cool though!
john- thanks. i might end up trying that. i have an air compressor so maybe...just maybe...i can do this myself. i dont want to bust a leak though...whatever it is HAS to be a loose hose i didnt crimp enough. no leaks before BHG fix....so its my fault i think. i'm thinking it might be the...
yes that is exactly the site i was referring to. bad results and i will probably never use the stuff unless i somehow get a horrible engine that has no other hope. lol. thanks for the idea though. my engine sounds better now... and i noticed the noise is worse with the clutch depressed so...
