stock head with 264 or 272 cams

I've read that you can use brian crower 264's cams with the stock head but when going to 272's it is advised that you buy their springs and valves etc etc etc.

So its impossible to run 272 cams with the stock head as is?

Is the reasoning to buy their springs & etc due to the assumption of raising the rev limiter and higher revs? Or is it necessary with the design of the 272 cam?

anybody? Basically im asking if you can use 272 cams with the stock head and no work done to it? And why is the bc springs and valves kit necessary.

I wouldn't........
If your going to stay in the stock rev range,
272 cams won't gain you much over 264s,
and you will just loose bottom end to boot.

Besides, the BC cams leave a lot to be desired as far a quality & workmanship.
Schneider cams has regrinds (on new blanks) for half as much.
And they are nice cams, no 'issues'.

Stay with the 264's. 272's are for built heads. But if your going to swap cams you might as well spend the extra $70 and get some BBC comp cam springs.

ok so from the info, its better to stay with 264 cams due to staying in the stock rev range. Going with 272 is not beneficial due to the amount of low end that ill be losing and just the little gain that i would get over the 264 in the stock rev range. It would better to get the 272 tho if i got the valves and springs to increase the stock rev range to make use of the extra rpms so i could use 272 with the stock head, just not the smartest thing to do powerband wise?
