Started tearing motor apart so I can do machine work and noticed my 7m-ge block is red, is there any difference like other Toyota engines between thier red black and or silver top motors?

If its red someone has had it out before and painted it. Did you measure the cylinders to see if it has been over bored in the past?

Also silver and black top is related to valve cover and coil cover colors not block colors.

your right, motors been out befor, cylinders have discolor indication which suggests to me at some point rings on 2 cylinders had been broke and walls ball honed, the walls do have very nice cross hatching still for 170k miles. head intake valves were clean as a whistle very minimul build up, the exhust valves had alot of mineral build up.

i got new gaskets, timing belt (even though it looks new) and other parts on order. ive cleaned and smoothed block mating surface, and i have the head getting cleaned ported polished. exhust vales after clean up had no damage or pitting (thank god.) should have her back together this weekend, if i dont work overtime on sat.

old head gasket (YUMMY)
