The chassis plugs under the dash are different from 89 to 90. I think the main power plug from the fuse box in the engine bay might be different also.

Some early 90 will work on 89. I've done it 2 of my friends cars.

If the body plugs fit they will work. But if its a yellow plug car there's going to be some wires that need to be swapped.

It's not going to work, but if you're up to the challenge, get the wiring diagram which indicates which pin is which and re-pin the appropriate plug that fits your chassis. Its more work than it is complex.

'89 are grey plug, BUT they are the same pinout as the earlier yellow plug harnesses.

My '89NA was grey plug. I popped in an '87 7M-GTE harness and ECU. It plugged right in, except for the ABS harness, which was easy enough to adapt. I kept the 1989 ABS brain and actuator.

So under my dash, I've got the grey chassis harness plugged straight into a yellow ECU harness. All of my gauges work (With the tach driver board changed out)

If you have a 1989 engine which you are dropping into a 1990 car, I believe that the 1990 harness will connect to the engine in most cases. I also believe that you could use most of the 1989 accessories in the 1990 car, but you'd have to check case by case.

If you have a 1990 engine and harness and are trying to install it in a 1989 chassis, I suggest that you reconsider. Again, the 1989 harness should connect to the 1990 engine in the vast majority of the cases.
