Toyota and Subaru announced today in a joint press conference that Toyota is going to double its stake in Fuji Heavy Industries, the company that produces Subaru cars.

Toyota is going to buy 61 million Fuji Industry shares, which increase the automaker's stake from 8.7 percent to 16.5. In addition to the announcement Toyota and Subaru also announced that the two automakers are working on a new rear-wheel-drive sports car that will be released in 2011. Toyota is in charge of the basic design of the car and Subaru is going to supply the engine. It is rumored that there will be two engines offered, a naturally aspirated 175 horsepower boxer engine and a turbocharged 2.5L.

It has been rumored that the overall design of the car is inspired by the RWD AE86 Toyota Corolla from the 1980's.

Needs 2 more cylinders. I have horrible boxer engine memories

Its still going to suck. Choked by emissions, its going to weigh a shit ton because of all the "safety" crap they do now.

IIts gonna be like an audi.

Under powered, overpriced and overweight.

My STI is underpowered.... DAMN IT. Just a cat back and I have to wear a helmet at the track...

Which reminds me... needs a bigger wing/hoodscoop.

Your STi isn't underpowered, Do you REALLY think they are going to make this little car 300HP?

Car manufacturers are doing EVERYTHING wrong in this day and age.

When you have LITTLE underpowered cars that weigh almost 2/3rds of what my Cadillac weighs, something is going wrong.

Why did the small VW's and GTS corolla have going for it? Not weighing as much as a bulldozer and having just enough power! Small cars don't need an ass ton of power. But with America getting fatter... who knows.

Everyone is always bitching about gas prices blah blah blah, and most cars that are being made in this model year are, HEAVIER AND MORE POWERFUL

Thats not how you archive better gas mileage.
BTW, I do like boxster engines, just not in my Toyota's ok?

Cliffs - If you work for toyota, make cars lighter
