Starts today!

I finally got the motor out of the car, and the transmission off, and got the motor bolted to the jackstand. Just so i can kick this thread off with a good start heres what im going to be doing and whats already done that i have to fix. So far the car has approx 148,000 miles on the motor and transmission, since ive owned it (october 15th, 2005) its gone through 1 head gasket (was stock) and just recently got rod knock.

The Planned Goodies:
Upgraded Turbo (TD06, Boss 60 Stage 4, havent Decided)
3" Turbo back w/ tanabe exhaust
Apexi Power Intake
Blitz TT
MAFT Pro w/ speed density
Ported Rebuilt Head w/ 1mm oversized valves
2mm greddy mhg
coated pistons w/ full bottom end rebuild
shot peened rods
AEM 6 in 1 wideband
Blitz DSBC- Type S Electronic Boost Controller
Full 5spd swap w/ Spec Clutch
Full rebuilt 5spd transmission
Upgraded SS clutch/fuel lines
Aeromotive FPR
Ebay FMIC
Cooleeze Intercooler hard pipe kit
PWR Radiator
Upper rad hardpipe kit
Oil FIlter Relocation Kit
High Flow Oil Pump

Not sure on the specifics for the bottom end and cylinder head, but pretty sure ill be going with either Stock coated pistons & rods, or wiseco pistons w/ stock rods, of course using TOGA bearings.

Anyways like i promised heres the damage done on the motor, a slight start of a BHG and of course rod knock. Still havent had a chance to take the oil pan off but i will once i get the garage organized and a bench layed down. Before i pulled the motor i would decel in 3rd gear and plume whitish blue smoke out the tailpipe and cover half of a street with oily smoke.

That will be one badass buildup. If I am not mistaken, the Blitz SBC Type S is only goof for 18psi, while the type R is good for 36psi. Why even bother with an EBC when you have the maft-pro?

P.S. i may be selling my Cooleeze hardpipe kit when I get them next week, if you dont already have them.

The Type R is a close 2nd, i relaly like the setup and interface the SBC uses.

Alright havent posted in awhile because ive been busy with other stuff. But i finally got the bottom end disassembled (partially). Got the rods and pistons and main caps all out and cleaned up.

Looks like i had a combo between Rod KNock & piston slap(ish). I blew ring land away on piston 6 and from what i could tell 4 out of 6 rings had copperish tint to them. Main bearings looked OK but i was quite surprised when i saw piston #6.

It was dark out so i didnt take many pics, will take alot more tomorrow once i get the block further disasembled and cleaned up a bit.

Guess its time for forged internals :) Im looking at a set of Ross Pistons/Pins/Rods, Rings, Clevite Bearings, ARP Fasteners for about $1500 All forged from what ive read. So hopefully that deal goes through, been getting a few quotes here locally for getting the head ported/rebuilt w/ new 1mm over valves. All in all build total should be $3k-$3.5k if im lucky.

Also when we took the oilpan off the oil pump screen had chunks of bearing/metal just sitting on the screen, several big pieces too. Im honestly surprised this motor lasted 2-3k running like this :biglaugh:

When we pulled the rod and main caps off and popped the pistons out the entire garage began to wreak of burnt oil and some other VERY nasty smell. Was quite interesting to say the least. The oil on these pistons and inside that motor is less then 500 miles old straight valvoline 50w.

^funny hahaha

yeah i got tired of driving it w/ rod knock so i decided to go out in style.

Bottom end is in the machine shop as of a week ago to be machined and inspected to see if its repairable. Im bidding on a set of cryo treated rods and some new pistons as well. 2 weeks before i hear anything about my block and how bad it is but we will see.

Im probably going to stay auto for now just get the supra running on stock turbo stock everything that way i can make it to SILV on time. Its going to take a miracle to get this back together by then

Just a random rant: im getting down on my luck here, im starting to have worries and bad feelings about my build. Worried it will enver get done and that i wont be able to reassemble it. Money isnt coming in fast enough and i dont have the patience to wait. I love my car and I don't want to give up on it. But its going to take forever to get it finished and i know this. The list of items needed to be bought just to get this thing running again is pretty damn near long. I almost just want to buy another supra and xfer my interior and wheels over to it and sell the shell..
/endrant

I'll update the thread once i hear word from the Machinist on the damages.

Update 7.26.06
I got notice back from the machinist about what needs to be done to the block. It appears that its not in as bad of shape as i thought it would be. I'm going to have to bore the cylinders .20 and bore the mains, as well as polish the crank.

The good news is that the machinist can get me a set of decent forged pistons for about $400. So i just have to save up about $800 to get the machine work and pistons. I havent decided if im going to use my stock rods or not.

He should be starting the work on the block once i give him the OK. Tell me, is $400 a decent price to Lap the deck, bore the cylinders, bore the mains, polish the crank, and vat the block/crank.

Update 8.4.06
Alright i got a full price list of what needs to be done and what my options are as far as pistons & rods. take a look at this file to view.

http://7mpwr.com/rebuild_costs.htm

Im probably going JE pistons and stock recon rods. Can anyone compare these prices with what they have paid for me?
