hey guys im going to be rebuild a Nissan ka24e in the very near future and ive got couple questions on the ring gaps ive come up with.
i based my clearances off of IJ's formula, which is 4 thousandths for every inch of bore on the 1st ring, 5 thousandths on the second ring.. but i used 45 thousandths in place of IJ's 4.
the ring gap i came up with were:
3.50x.0045=.0157in for the top ring
3.50x.0050=.0175in for the sec ring
and for the oil ring Nissan calls for .20-.69mm. i want to me some where in the middle so i went with .40mm, which came out to .0157in
now if i rounded up to the nearest thousandth:
top ring .016in
sec ring .018in
oil ring .016in
do you guys think these clearances are too tight, too loose or on the money?
keep in mind this is a stock rebuild and Nissan recommends:
top ring .011in-.020in
sec ring .017in-.027in
oil ring .0008in-.027in
so im within "spec" this engine will be beaten on on a regular occasion.
