Whoever wins that has a LOT of work on their hands (wonder how much new windows cost all around?), but the price, at least for now, is about right for a shell. Nothing a bit of time with an experienced body work friend couldn't fix though...

You know he's got over 100 grand into that engine.

Ahh... funny. Just how the hell do you even put that much money into an engine anyway? I'd be surprised if 100k didn't put you into F1 engine territory...

Agree, IRL rebuilds done at Roush Technologies of Livonia, Mich cost $17,000. Granted that is a v8 and not a v10 F1 engine.

Eh, correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the IRL cars rev to something like 10-12k? Last I checked, F1 was running upwards of 18-19k... I mean, an engine is an engine, but there's bound to be some EXTREMELY tight specs on those F1 units. I still can't see it costing 100k though...

Talk about a derailed thread...

:D AFAIK, it's not the precision measurements/machining and special bearing materials and coatings that make F1 stuff retarded expensive; it's the research dedicated to finding the right ones that really jacks up the price. Don't worry though...something similar will come factory stock and perfectly reliable in about a decade. Cough, turbos, cough.

They USED to turbo F1 cars... then they lost their balls in the early 90's when the safety nannies came along... Hell, racing in general was absolutely bonkers in the late 80's. Makes me wonder where we would be if not for all the "safety" objections to the progression of speed and performance.

So tight that you have to warm up the engine before it will crank over.

100 grand wouldn't get you anywhere to even close to f1. i remember hearing a number but i know it was in the millions.

Think so? Are the materials used THAT exotic that it would cost MILLIONS? That's a lot of zeros man... I'd believe an entire car for that sort of money, but just an engine?

Have a buddy that builds drag engines in the 7-9 second range. They run 30-50k easy.

He sold 2 this month. I think he said his personal race 68 cuda is about 65k build by himself in michigan. 8.30 N/A no nitrous in the quarter. So I could easily see an F1 being well over 500k... or at least the first moulds of everything being a million. There after probably 250-500k.

Those engines have to run tits out hours after hours and not have much issues. I can't imagine the old Turbo v-10/12 set ups in the 80s.
