I wanted to post this in the SME section but the subtopic is closed .

I am currently extending a harness and would like to know the correct way to extend the shielded wires such as the Knock sensors etc. On the harness there is about three inches of "normal" wire on either end with a larger (coaxial?) wire in between .

An on a side note I am not referring to the DR. Jonez Knock sensor rewire

There are a few ways to go about this Matt. Are you extending one wire with shielding or multiple wires inside a common shield?

If multiple wires inside a common shield, the method I chose was to use metal braided sleeving and solder it at both ends where it contacts the sleeving. Then place heat shrink over the whole section.

Braid like this:

There is also this product, I have used this but it is better suited for making a single splice rather than extending a shielded wire.
Warning: It's a PDF

Which wires are you extending. On my 2JZ harness the only wires that were shielded right up to the ecu went to the traction control servo. Not sure if the 1JZ has that, but if it does I can't see you needing it and could just delete it. On my harness all the knock sensor shield wires joined the ground splice before the point where I extended my harness. So the only shielded wires I extended was the Trac servo. Just a thought.

I should note that links I post are just the first place Google found what I was referencing, not where I recommend purchasing items.
