Glad you liked our project shitbox. Building it was half the fun. We have been accepted to race at the Freeze Your Arse Pooloza in December up at Thunderhill. But this would be the 1st 2J MK3 partaking this event. (Kinda wished we were the first MK3)

The car will be starting tomorrow and the shakedown will take place at an autocross event at the California Speedway in November.

Aaron forgot to mention that Driftmotion is a silent sponser to our extremely misguided project.

It is quick enough to cause hairs to stand on end. I am sure a bit of that has to do with a chassis that tripods on 3 jack stands, ear splitting exhaust, brakes that would put your head in the gauge cluster, steering that feels extremely light and responsive by Supra standards, or yes it really is fast during my test run around my block (enlightening my neighbors what it is like to live near me anyone who has wrenched on a Supra at my place in Monrovia could attest to my urges for open DP runs) I intentionally put it in the dregs of the RPM band and it did nothing but shake it off and run.

Short of a slight stutter. Most likely caused by two things. The main coil wire is 2 wires soldered together at the connector and the first wire arcs through the jacket. Yeah holding that while wire during initial testing to prevent it from catching in something was not happy time. This weekend we plan on playing with the in car camera if we get the chance. Unfortunately are only caliber of speed will be how fast we pass people, but being the proud owner of 1jz powered MKIII this thing made we wobbly at the knees

I might do this for 09, me and a friend are trying to find a car that handles. The good news is that I have a spare ct26 and 2 MKIV ct20s in the garage, so whatever we get will be turboed.

Just wanted to make sure you guys were well aware of this. Granted the car has a budget of $500, but there are quote a few misc items which adds up quickly. Race fees, temp licenses for 6 of us was $1450. We probably spent another $2500 on safety equipment. New tires alone are about $500. It's the little things that add up quickly.

Don't forget the racing gear, race suit, helmet, gloves, shoes, neck brace.

Just food for thought.

2 weekends left till race weekend. The car drives live a bat out of hell. New windshield got put in. Fuel tank got moves OUT of the cabin, RT615s on all corners. A completely new heavy duty switch box. New support structures have been wielded on.

We will be taking it to Streets of Willow next week for it's shake down, as well as giving us all some seat time. But the car is solid and light. A strong 2JZGE running on 7MGE electronics. IF anyone said it couldn't be done, we have proven them wrong.

Driver Roster as follows. Order may change a little

Buckle up for safety, 5 point harness is overkill

New support bars in the trunk, mainly to protect the fuel cell.

Control box for what is left of the electrical components. We still kept our large roundhouse button.

2JZGE in all it's glory. Home made strut tower bar. New rules requires headlights, so there they are.

We put the roof back onto the car, in case it rains up in Thunderhill
Here it starts looking like a Supra again.

Toyo, we were thinking along the lines of an old MB 300td with a turbo from a cummins, or an old RX7. I have a feeling that, although heavy, the 300td would be able to withstand the abuse we would toss at it, more than the rotary. Now, an SBC in a OLD rx7 would be nice and cheap, with a th350, as the track in NE isnt a very fast track (where we would need to go over 120)

Another piece of advice is DON'T OVER ENGINEER the car. Get a solid platform that is not too light where it will get punted, but not too heavy that it handles poorly.

Our group discussions have been that if we were to do this all over again, we would NOT try to get a 2JZ to run on 7M electronics. We would also buy a ready made cage rather than to make one completely from scratch.

If the car comes back with us from Lemons, we will turbo it. If not, our next plan was a 2nd or 3rd Gen Prelude. Besides, we've done a Supra already. To do another one would be boring.

awesome stuff toyofreak! lots of room up front!! sheesh. is that 2jz mounted further back than a normal swap would be for better handling or does it just look that way because the radiator and fan aren't there anymore?

BTW my friend has been mentioning to me that Grassroots is going a west-coast competition at half the limit of the 2009 challenge.... hmmmmm

:p
