do i really need a egt sensor and guage?

ive got a wideband and am running a apexi safc 2. would it be advised to get a egt for the tune? is it necessary? ill be taking it to a shop for the tune. any info would be great. thanks guys

Unless you spend a LOT of $$$ EGT's are too slow to use for tuning..

maybe i am confused, i thought the wideband pretty much did wat a egt reader did. it measures the egt to measure your a/f ratio. depending on your egt it meters whether your running lean or rich. so what would be the point of having a egt reader? does it literally just tell you your egt?

ignition timing can effect EGT's as well. AFR truley only tells part of the combustion story...but it does tell you MOST of what you need. So EGT gauge is really just a "nice to have" unless you are trying to tune for max HP

Fwiw AFR and EGT are directly related, as is EGT and power being made. The relationship is accurate enough that it's used to set mixture in aircraft. However as Ian inferred it's useful only at a constant power setting.
