3rd gear grind

got a r154 with around 140k on it. it grinds into 3rd unless i ease it in like a gentleman. if im getting on it then it grinds every damn time. so of course that tells me its the synchro rite? thats wat im thinking. anyhow, found a kit on ebay for 60 dollars, very new at transmissions. ive asked around, been told its pretty easy to replace the synchros rite? do i need anything pressed? any info would be helpful thanks guys.

Its pretty simple if you have a press, a piece of 1 1/2 or 1 3/4 tube and some random pieces of steel to span the gears while you press them off/on. You need a press for sure and a bearing separator and a few other random hand tools. Download the fsm and have at it.

Right (rite) The syncros syncronize the speed of the two merging shafts. So yeah, yours is isn't matching. What you are hearing is the clutching teeth. That is the pointed ones on the outside. They hold it in gear. If you ignore it, eventually it will pop out of gear. If it even goes in.
