I found a 1990 turbo with 166000 miles. The guy says there is an engine knock over 2000 rpm. Said it was checked out and it is either the rod or crank bearings. Could it be that or do you think it could be the crank thrust or oil pump? Your expert help would be appreciated.

Rod knock on these engines is almost as common as blown head gaskets. Rod bearings going bad are a good bit more likely than main bearings. Basically, if it is knocking, it's only worth as much as the condition of the shell is.

Price sounds real high to me. Shells in good condition can go for around 1000 all day every day. It would also depend on the interior color and exterior color if he knows what he has. If you can give us some more info on the car we may be able to help a little better.

If the rest of the car is in great condition (wheels, tires, suspension, interior, body, brakes), then $2500 for a shell isn't a horrible price at all. However, bodywork is time consuming, interior parts get expensive, as do the rest of the things I mentioned. Up to you though, what is it worth to YOU? That is what matters. We can sit here and give you our opinions on whether or not we'd buy it all day haha.

but to get another motor.. whether it be another 7m or whatever else you want to put it in will still be $1000+

It seems to depend on location how much the shell is worth.

Around here, the shells are all rusty, and good ones are spendy.

If I were to buy another MA70, I would probably not mind something like this, because I'd want to rebuild the motor anyway, just to know for sure what's under the hood before I start playing.
