well i've only got time to rip her apart at the moment but i've considered the possibility of a bad iscv and i took it out and looked and there might be something missing because i put this engine together a while ago and its been a long project. if nothing is missing in that picture then i'll...
okay so here is my problem. it started out with me backfiring alot and having inconsistent idle. so i went through the steps of re installing the cps and setting the timing and still nothing. so then i just for the hell of it put on a lexus afm and it almost completely settled the idle...
well to get to the sender is kind of a bitch to get to from both the top and the bottom of the car. i put one in because i didn't want to deal with trying to hunt down a new problem and if you don't mind having a guage screwed in somewhere on your dash then i suggest doing it from the top...
did you burp the system? and i don't think coolant should be coming out of the top of the rad... where exactly from the rad is it coming from? the cap? or the seams on the rad.. or is it coming out of the overflow tank?
okay so changed to ngk vpower plugs and found a boost leak. Fixed those and then re set timing and now she runs like a champ! no hesitation, jerking, it still misses every once but very rarely now. time to get it taken to a ref to get my lights and brakes checked and registered finally and on...
they are usually from a lean condition? is that why when i put on the lexus maf it stopped backfiring at idle? but what i don't get is why it fixed the stumbling at low rpms and made the intermittent misses farther and fewer between
well initially the backfiring was during cold start idle so i thought that possibly it was bad and or leaking so was a source of the extra fuel hence causing the backfire but i've since been proven wrong
i'm pretty sure but i'll check tomorrow that the timing is correct again and i disconected my cold start injector well.. just the clip but i don't think i'll need it since i live in socal. i'm not getting any codes and i may need a new 02 sensor but i doubt it
@chris i think i might need to do that because i'm pretty sure my plugs are fouled after all the horribly rich running and initial oil burning because i know my #1 plug is pretty bad looking and i just replaced them last month with iridiums
but here is what i did.
i put on the Lexus maf and it...
okay fixed the code 22 put in new coil pack and wires and new ground and different ecu and checked and re aligned tps and re adjusted cps and reset timing and i'm still backfiring!(but really only after getting up to operating temps and driving it! it stutters pretty bad under 2k rpm. seriously...
now this is the type of answer i was looking for thanks! and i will be adjusting my tps just in case and i know the backfire is cause by either lean or rich but i am not really fully sure what is causing it but i'll let you guys know when i fix the code 22
woah cracked valve covers? did you jump on them with ice skates? thats crazy but yea thank goodness our cars let us check codes haha and get back to us when you check them!
