To answer your question i didn't do a thing when i installed the shims, I just pulled the pads greased the shims and reinstalled the pads and so far they are as quite as can be.

MB had so many complaints about brake squeals with the S series they issued a voluntary recall to have this redesigned brake shims added to the calipers. I have tried two different brand brake pads now stoptech and ceramic power and have had issues with both.

I don't know if any one else is having problems with excessive brake squeals and noise but if so here is the solution

Honestly i wouldn't rebuild it, A simple 2jz-ge swap out of an sc300 would be a better choice.

Here's what i would do, pick the best non VVTI GE out of the bunch, pull the head through on a GTE head gasket to lower the compression to 9.2:1 and bolt it all back together with some arp's and call it a day. You can even run this set up on the stock 7m-gte electronics to make your life easier...
