I was just putting my motor together and would like some input on how close to put the mesh on the bottom of the oil pickup tube to the bottom of the oil pan. I was figuring about 1/4 inch.

If you read the papers that come with the gasket they tell you to check for that. If it isn't Right they send you another one at no cost to you.

I LOVE cometic gaskets. I have even RE-USED them a second time. Not once have I had a problem. This was at 17 pounds and beating the crap out of the car EVERY SINGLE DAY!

Also, that is cast iron, and is harder to weld, would cost more than just welding steel due to having to heat up/ cool down the part prior and post welding.

It is actually a ford oil cooler. our oil filter is the same 3/4-16 thread that ford uses. That particular oil cooler is off of the newer e-series vans with a v-8. I got it off of ebay for $30 shipped. The bolt that it came with didn't work, but the bolt that holds on the oil cooler of a 98-ish...

I just figured I would put up a pic of my oil cooler for other people to get some Ideas other than the standard "radiator" type. It uses engine coolant to keep the oil at the 180 degrees. It eliminates the need for an oil thermostat too.

I daily drive and beat the shit out of my supra, it runs a 12.8 in the 1/4 and it is an all stock bottom end with nothing but a lexus afm and a 60-1 ct26. Might I add that I bang gears like a mofo and have gone through three first gear thrust washers.
