It turns out my sense of smell was way off. Found it to smell more and more like fuel and happened to notice a leak on the driveway one day. Climbed under the car and sure enough the fuel filter is leaking. Got a replacement and will be changing it shortly.

I really can't say how flammable it is. Maybe test it out on a spare piece of metal (not on the car)?! I think it'd be more of a concern if you were spraying while torching. :)
^ This is what I had to do when I replaced my exhaust system. And then bang on it a lot. Seems that the heat that is generated practically welds the elbow onto the turbo. Good luck.

Reviving this thread, GrimJack have you replaced the heater core? If so, do you have any helpful tips or a how-to write up? I'm experiencing the same coolant smell in the cabin once in a while and also get plenty condensation on the inside.
