supramicist - not to worry, I know the timing belt is to be centered on the pulleys... that pic was taken during a long reassembly process. Here's how things are looking today (see attached pics)
I think our fellow Supraphile, ill Z, is trying to correctly reattach the alternator adjustment...
You had a "melted hole the size of an old Silver Dollar" in the AFM or the air intake tubing?? Either way that's quite disturbing... Instead of going ghetto with the duct tape make sure you fix that Supra up right! :icon_bigg
"Rear seats.... Iron Maiden"
Haha! This is so true! I once rode along as a back seat passenger in my Supra - I had this weird desire to "see what it's like to ride in the back seat"... (dumb @ss!) We drove from St Louis to Cincinnati (6-6 1/2 hours) and I've never been so sore in my life...
Masterchief819, your Supra is looking sweet... that engine bay looks immaculate. Your pics have inspired me to try to repaint my wheels, they've been losing flakes of paint for years it seems...
Congrats on the award! :drink1: Prost!
Yesterday morning I finally got the old heater union off and the new one installed (had to let the old one soak with penetrating lubricant for a day or so). Tell you what, this tough-@ss bolt was #2 in difficulty only to loosening the monster crankshaft pulley bolt. I ended up needing about a 3...
Well, it's done. Ordered a new heater union from Toyota today and it only set me back $19.50 - that's replacing both the union bolt and the neck portion that curves toward the passenger side of the head.
Now I just have to find a 32mm deep socket (found out my local Sears only sells up to...
supramacist - I've recently painted my heat shields with a Dupli-Color High Heat Ceramic (aluminum color, picked up at local AutoZone for $5) and it looked so good I nearly wet myself... see pics attached. Make sure to prep the surface well by removing grease/oil residues (I used Zep Commercial...
I appreciate all the feedback! I had the same thought jdub (leave it alone - not leaking before) The engine has 183,000+ miles on it, maybe better to not disturb the thing? Baby buffalos are nothing to play with...
Has anyone had one of these fail/leak at the washers with high milage?
Thanks for the info jdub. Don't like the thought of shredding the union bolt upon removal... I'll try to be as gentle as my 18" breaker bar can be...:icon_wink
Can anyone enlighten me on the socket size needed for the heater union? (Pic attached) I've got the head off for a BHG repair and figured I should replace the crush washers on this bad-boy connection while I'm at it. I searched the old threads for a clue but only found one guy claiming it's a 1...
Here are a few pics of my 91 Supra. Currently sheltered in my neighbor's garage (built in 1910... hope it stays up 'til I get the car running again...) Note the high-tech prop rod for the hood! Other pic is how the engine bay looks now. BHG repair underway, just need to get that block surface a...
