Here's a new one for me. out of nowhere the alternator guage is off the scale on the high side...it's
reading over 18 volts? wtf? It drops when I turn on somethng like the AC...or when I am at a stop light idling...but still way closere to 18 v than 12...
Battery? Voltage regulator?
The head straightenng and other work on the head was performed by Dover here in Jacksonville.
They charged $45 twice on the same invoice for 'head straightening'...not sure I undersood it then nor now.
And I am in the process of locating another head.
I can't remember...when doing the retorque do you start in the middle (#1 in the manual) and work out to #14? Or do you start at #14 and work in to #1...?
As I have -posted, my cylinder head is a bit on the thin side having been surfaced at least three times.
I checked the valve to piston clearance and there was plenty of room, so I bought a new Toy gasket and put everything back together.
Runs great. Idles nicely. Plenty of power...
No, it's not in backwards. But even if it was I would not expect oil to leak in such a volume. A leak for sure...but a gusher?
Not insulted at all. I've pulled enough bonehead stunts to know better...
After doing a HG repair, there is an extremely large amount of oil gushing out of the camshaft seal on the exhaust side...
I have seen seals leak, but never anything like this...naturally I am going to replace the seal...even though it looks OK...question is what the H would cause so much oil...
88 supra non turbo.
Has anyone discussed what the minimum height might be for a head that has been shaved three times?
I know that the stock height is 116mm...but what I want to know is the miniumum height before the valves contact the pistons?
Assuming, of course, that the block height...
The banana shape isn't especially obvious but one you see it, you can't miss it. Put a straight edge along the valve deck and...yep, it confirms the visual.
Looks like I need a new head.
