    Default Header/Exhaust System Design

There have been many threads on this subject, one is even mine. I tried and failed badly at making a header, Ron I am not ! But non of these many threads seem to bring about change. A major mod for N/A Supras or the any naturally aspirated car is a header(s). Nothing is going to change if we don't change ourselves. Pacesetter, OBX, Doug Thorley: Face it guys that is old news. In my build it has come up more than once, what header are you going to use. I went as far as looking in the Lexus world and almost bought one to mod it for my Supra. I'm crazy but to buy something for $500 plus and cut it up is a stretch even for me. I read a lot have for a long time, from Car Craft to Turbo to Muscle Mustang & Fast Fords even a few Honda mags. Something that has got my attention is an article by David Vizard.

    http://www.superchevy.com/technical/...exh/index.html

A lot of the short falls of our header design are evident after reading this article several times. One glaring thing is primary pipe size.

    http://www.superchevy.com/technical/.../photo_04.html

For me a 1 3/4'' primary is needed. I researched this and it is dead on for my setup. But a 1 5/8" pipe would give me close to the same results. But for reference the chart is pretty accurate.

Then the next question is collector style. 6 into 1 or 3-2-1 (Tri Y). It really boils down to what do you plan on doing with the car.

Then the lenth of the pipe (collector) every design I've seen is wrong. So there is more room to improve. We think we have the right set up but really we are way off. We are leaving "easy" hp on the table. We go after our exhaust system as if we had a turbo. For the most part it's okay but we need to do a few things first to capitalize on that. I'm not saying you are going to make XYZ hp by doing this. But you will make more than you do now for sure.

    TRUST header

1 5/8" inner diameter. My only gripe about the design is where the O2 sensor is located, but that can be easily modified.

Only sold in Japan, you can contact Greddy USA. There is no part number listed for the 7MGE, but if it fits a 5M, I assume it'll be fine for the 7M as well.

The doug thorley's which fit the 5M don't fit the 7M. I know from experience. (sort of. My bro had to have doug thorley's modified)

From what I've heard, some DTs have to be modified to fit the 5M cars too. Dunno why.

When I installed the TRUST, it didn't like the charcoal canister being in the way, so I took it out and left it out.

DT's had to be modded to fit 5Ms too? Now that's weird! My dad had Doug Thorley headers on his Dark Blue 83 Supra. He never had complaints about it. Maybe it might have been a slight difference in years? Haha. I don't know much about MK2s

Not all Dts, just some. Dunno why. I've noticed the contruction of Pacesetter headers varies as well, don't think I've heard of fitment issues w/ them though. *shrug*

My bro's pacesetters had trouble fitting his 7MGE. Hmmm. Oh well.

    My Pacesetters went right in.
    But I ditched their collector.
It looked to be an after-thought.
Instead I ran tubes from the 2) '3 into 1' collectors down a waysm and then into my own custom '2 into 1' 3" outlet collector.

I also have a set of new DG headers for an old 4M, that I actually like better.
And have a billet steel flange for a 7M so that I can convert them over.
The port spacing on the old 4M is the same as the 7M, but with different bolt hole locations.
But the Pacesetters are working out well, so the Dt set is just sitting in a box.

    Anyone interested, just PM me.

I gained 12whp going from stock manifold & exhaust to modified Pacesetter header, 2.25" catless exhaust.

I wish I had dyno numbers for the TRUST for ya.

Thanks Tanya for the pics and information. From what I remember to make a 5/6M header fit grinding the flange to clear the dizzy is the main pain in the butt.
