Some people love stretched tires some hate. It is just a new style that has been around for a long time. As long as you don't go too skinny the tire will be fine. My track set will be stretched because I am going to be drift on them anyways and skinny rims are lame.

I'm less worried about the tire's well being, more curious as to why waste money on wide wheels when you're putting the bare minimum tire size on them; losing all functionality of having wide wheels to begin with. Either way, you answered it, its simply an idiotic styling thing.

I don't think you should go as far as saying it is idiotic. No hating please.

Some extreme stretches are stupid, there's no point and people do it just to look cool. I do like a little bit of a stretch, like the 235 on a 9.5, for drifting. It increases the cornering stiffness of the tires by essentially preloading the sidewall in the lateral direction. So compared to something like a 275 on a 9.5 where the sidewall is sloppy and quick direction changes don't give good steering feel.

For road racing, I do like a little more tire under the car that's why I have another set of wheels and tires. The setup I posted here was just for drifting and driving to the track. Although I did track the car with a 225/235 setup on 9/10 wheels at pocono. And the brakes were the biggest limiting factor, so I couldn't carry as much speed through turns as I would've like because of the slightly unsettling lack of brakes. But despite that, I did not feel that the tires were holding me back.

But I do have another setup that I haven't fit to the car. It's 275/315 Hoosiers on 10.5/11.5 BBS Race wheels. I still don't know how it's going to fit on the car, but that's what the winter is for.

But I do have when people try and put too much tire on a wheel. It works for straight line, but it doesn't work too well for cornering.

Just tried on the work vs-xx fronts 18x8 +8 offset with 235/45 i believe. it would probably rub without fender roll

Thats not bad. Maybe with slight camber it could work.

I personally feel these wheels fit perfect. They are FLUSH in the front. With the 225 I have had them rub only once. I beleive with a slight roll I could fit 235's for sure, possibly 245's but I will do some measurements before confirming. The rear's are almost as flush and allow plenty of fender clearance to fit any size tire. I will be looking at inner clearance but see no problems running 275's. I woud also like to stress that my tires have no stretch. They are very square shouldered and the 255 BFG's tend to run wider than the same size in other brands.
