If you are replacing your valve seals and drop a valve into the cylinder, this is how you can retrieve it. You can prevent this from happening by bringing the piston in the cylinder you are working on to TDC then feed rope in through the spark plug hole, so the valve will sit on the rope should it...

General Rod Knock Info
Diagnosing Engine Noises can be the most difficult thing a mechanic can do. Misdiagnosis is the norm rather than the exception.
I almost laugh when people open up and say it's a "rod knock" for every noise from fuel pump rattle to rocker arm tap.
My personal favorite...

I figured someone should do this write-up, since there isn't one already in this forum. I did it today, and I took pictures because I was bored. This is a total step-by-step, so even a complete amateur should be able to do this.
