Simple starting problem

OK should be a simple problem. My buddy had left the key in the ignition yesterday and I was not aware of this. So when I hooked up some jumper cables to Supra there was a click noise. I got in the car and then realized that the keys were in the ignition, and turned on!

Car wont even attempt to turn over. I pulled the starter relay from the passenger side kick plate, but could it be something else? I am going to go around town and try to find another relay but I am not sure if thats it.

check your battery cables... I've had something like this happen and it turned out my terminals were too gunked up to carry a charge even when I was trying to jump it...

It has been working fine until tonight when I did that. It was carrying a charge earlier in the night and for the last few days when doing the same thing. The only difference is that the key was on.

are your terminals new... make sure all your cables are connected and secured even a lose cable won't allow you to start... also check your cables on your starter... has it ever had problems like slow start or somethin like you had to crank it over a few times?

In the "on" position, the 'start circuit is not being activated, so I doubt it is a relay, starter, or connections at those 2. You drained the battery totally dead. You may have killed it. It may not accept a jump. It may never re-charge back up. Been there, done that.

If you took a brand new car battery and drained it down to nothing for several hours, it looses 25% of its life after re-charging it back up. It never comes back to original strength.

Your battery sounds like it was not a new one. Try buy / borrowing one to replace yours to start car, not jumping yours.

When I unhooked the battery the light pop up and the horn started honking after I reconnected it.

Yeah, that would be the factory alarm, you need to disarm it before the car will start.

Any hints on how to do that? I couldn't find anything on cygnus.com

I hadn't heard that the anti-theft system would set if the battery were drained. That may be what happened to yours.
Lock the doors with the key, then unlock them with the key. That should reset the system.

If that doesn't work and you suspect the battery take it to checker/kragen/schucks or whatever the hell it is and they will test it for you for free. If neither of those work you might want to check out some of the fuses.

I just found it odd that all this worked and then didn't. When I got in the car none of the lights would come on. After hooked up to the battery the lights would all come on as if it were going to start but didn't do anything when I tried to turn it over. The lights didn't dim out either.

Try the key thing. It sounds like the security system 'starter interupt' has been activated.

Yeah that sounds like your alarm has the starter killed. Do like mrnickleye said. I'm not sure why mine does it but if the battery is low/close to dead, and I try to jump it. It sets the alarm off. It's weird.

try locking and unlockin the car... b\c if the factory alarm goes off it will kill the ignition... and if it doesn't work on the dirvers' side door try it on the pass and the hatch... either one of those should disarm the factory alarm... I've had this problem many times with my car...
