These were a special buy, 120amp alternator for 7M! They came originally on a Viper, but have the right dimensions and connector for a 7M! You will notice the size difference in the case of this unit. You need to swap your original 7M alternator pulley onto this unit, otherwise it's a direct swap. Only 3 available at $130 ea. plus shipping. These are fully remanufactured and come with a 6 month warranty. Get it here:http://store.driftmotion.com/static/i-120amp7malternator.php

I haven't seen a Lipp bracket like that before! On the stock 7m the bracket can move to compensate for the bigger housing, on the Lipp one I guess it's not adjustable. Can you drill another hole in the housing and use a bolt and a nut?

That bracket goes where the A/C compressor was. Drilling another hole in the alt is one idea, but the lower arm of the bracket hits the alt, in that pic the bracket is actually sitting up off the alt tab because it's laying on the case and not the mounting tab of the alt. I'll come up with something ;)

A little grinding on the LIPP bracket and the alt, along with drilling a new hole in the alt, it now fits the LIPP bracket ;)

But, one more issue, my pulley is NOT fitting on the viper alternator. My stock alternator shaft is 15mm, the viper one is 17mm. What did you guys do to make the pulley fit? I don't think drilling it out is a good idea, could make the pulley wobble...

EDIT: After some research it looks like the GTE alt is suppose to have a 17mm shaft and a GE is a 15mm, so some how a GE alt ended up on my car :icon_roll

So now I need to find a GTE pulley!

I already pulled a 7m-gte alternator pulley and tested it on this alternator, so I know it does work. You just seem to have a little bad luck on this project. :(

Yes, you are correct Aaron.
Just to clarify for anyone reading up on this alt, I'm having a problem with my specific install, it is not a problem with this alt. This should bolt right up in the stock location and the GTE pulley will fit.

I did find a pulley that fits BTW.

Just ordered it, hopefully there is 1 left. As for the pulley, the ealier MK3's, 86.5 to 88, I think have the 15mm pulley, while the 89+ have the 17mm pulley. This is cheaper than buying a remanufactured MR2 alternator.

I dunno, I have an 87 and it all bolted up good for me. Was a pain in the ass to get the pulley bolt on and off tho.

One thing I did wonder was when I got my old pulley off I wondered the difference and put it up to the new one and didn't anything real noticeable. Was there something I missed? (still used the old one however)

do you have more of these alternators?

Yes, we have been getting more because we had more demand then anticipated, so we're making it a regular stock item!

Thanks! BTW, these alternators can be custom rewound to make up to 200 amps!
There is an additional cost for that, if anyone is interested give me a call!

Yes, but I think 150-180amp might be the upper limit for a stock size alternator.

got a quick question for you aaron. the pulley you supplied with the atlernator seems like the same diameter as the stock pulley. do i use the one you supplied or do i need to swap it with the pulley on my stock toyota pulley? thanks

It's wider then the stock Supra pulley, you do need to use your Supra alternator pulley.

Ok, well at this point we have exhausted the supply of the bigger Viper alternator cases, but all is not lost! We will be offering 150amp upgraded stock units at the same price the Viper alternators were! They are custom rewound and fully rebuilt, 6 month warranty, and they are all tested at the full 150amp capability to assure you get an alternator that can really push some serious amperage!

Maybe, I would need to see if I can get the cases and have them polished while disassembled, before the remanufacturing/upgrading is done.

Will the website be upgraded to purchase this option? And did you look into having it polished too?

I'll be making a hefty purchase with you within the next 3 weeks.
Just want to make sure I can get my goodies all in one shot.

Here's a link to the new 140 amp alternators!

http://store.driftmotion.com/static/i-140amp7malternator.php

We had some made and they tested at 140 amp, so I am going to call them 140 amp alternators. Since they are custom wound, they could test higher then 140, but each one will have the tested amperage written on it.

Awesome Aaron, I will be placing an order this weekend!
Any option for polishing the housing?

I'm not sure if I got the first one of these or what, but my alternator died about a month ago (ish) and I called up Aaron about the Viper unit...he told me they were out and let me in on the custom rewound alternators. He sent it express mail because of the switch (thanks again!), swapped it out and it works great!

I rewired the alternator and the two battery grounds with 2 gauge Tefzel wire and the idle output seems to be enough so that I can run lights, radio and my heat all at once and it won't die on me, which is great too.

Thanks :D

I looked into the polishing, but it's not really something I can offer right now. It would be too time consuming for me to try to do that.
