Is it possible that the adapter brackets that Randy makes allow to have the stock twins without bashing the firewall?
I ask , because tonight I lowered in the 2j w/o the tranny, to see where I had to bash the fire wall. When I let it sit there, I have about 1 inch between the firewall and the elbow. When i push back on the motor , then it goes and hits the firewall.
Anyone have any input about this?

i think thats one of the things he had planned when he made the mounts

Thats without the trans, so the angle might not be 100%. I'd pound it in to be safe.

yeah i pounded it in a little. i also formed the brakeline to follow what i pounded.

I have the bic mounts and still had to pound it in. Let us know your findings!

well, i droped in the motor last night, came to bolt in the tranny crossmember and the bolts wouldn't line up. not only that , the shifter barely clears the hole in the tunnel. thus making it that the motor is forward about 1 inch.

i checked and rechecked everything, but it all seems to be ok.
i have an 88 mk3,and am putting in a aristo 2jz(with an r154) with the bic 86-88 adapter brackets along with his polyurethane motor mounts.

compared the motor mounts with my stock ones , they're the same. tried it with stock mounts, still lines up too forward.

i compared the brackets i have with the pictures of the ones on his website, they seem to be ok.
is they're something i'm not seeing?

also on the motor mounts, am i suppose to keep the big cap(metal) that goes over the stock mount?

well after going through a countless amount of threads via the search button,
i came across this
http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=459757&highlight=BIC
question is,if the 1jz bellhousing is shorter , and the shifter is further forward on a jza70,does this mean i have to trim the tunnel hole?
because if i do change the bolt holes for the tranny mount for them to align with the body holes, my shifter is still too forward and like i said earlier barely makes it the hole.(mind it was an autotranny originally)

Hmm thats weird. Can you post up some pics of where you mounted the engine brackets to the block also where it lines up ect ect.? I have a 1988 aristo 2jz supra and didnt have any problems slapin her in besides pounding in the fire wall. It almost sounds like you have the engine mount brackets bolted on in the wrong spot.

Edit: this is kinda a stupid question but you do have the jz bell housing correct?

The brackets are mounted the right way, on their respective side. Having read many threads confirmed I had done it the right way.
Did you take a look at the link?
Randy says that the jz bellhousing is shorter ,thus making the tranny slightly more forward. Their would apparently be another set of bolt holes on the tranny for the tranny mount. That will solve my tranny mount bolts lining up to the body, but doesn't solve my shifter housing fitting very tightly(barely) in the tunnel hole. That's what i want to know.
I'll snap a pic tomorrow of what i mean.
how did yours fit ?

The bellhousing is definetly the right one, bought from driftmotion and bolts up to my r154 and to the block .

k I was just checking everything. Also did you bolt your drive shaft up? in theory it would also be to short. I'm going to be under my car tomarrow putting gear lube in ill also snap a couple pics and post um up for you. This is very very odd.

The brackets go on the rear most set of mounting holes. The L side goes on the intake manifold side of the engine. There may be a fuel line fitting using these holes, simply unbolt the fuel block, then the bracket, and the fuel line block back ontop of the bracket. Yes the bellhousing is shorter than the 7M housing, so the best way is to loosly bolt the motor mounts to the crossmember, then unbolt the transmsion mount crossmember and re-bolt the mount onto the trans to get proper alignment of the crossmember, you can even spin the trans mount around 180* to find the right position on the trans housing and crossmember. Then once its lined up correctly tighten everything down. The BIC brackets locate the engine in the same position as the OEM brackets, so yes you will have to slightly clearence the fire wall. I also reccomend to clearence the fire will with both the 1jz and 2jz using the stock twins. It is very difficult to get the rear turbo off without the firewall clearenced a bit, you just need enough room to get a wrench on the intake pipe bolts.

You do not need to use the stock motor mount cap things, unless you need to shim the motor up slightly to keep it off the crossmember.

Thanks Randy, but I had already found late last night the suraforum thread that the tranny has another set of bolt holes to back the crossmeber back a bit.

What about the shifter housing coming in short in the tunnel hole? trim it?

As for the driveshaft, 3/4inch won't change anything, it must go in the tranny like 5 inches.
i banged in the firewall after all, jic

i'm gonna add this info to the 2jz swap sticky, i would've got alot more work done this weekend if it wasn't for this!

The shifter sits close to the trans tunnel hole, it shouldnt need trimming, but if its touching with the mounts attached, obviously it must be trimed a bit. I am not to sure if Auto Supras have a different size or shaped hole for the shifter.

Ah i'm glad you got that figured out. I have a short throw shifter so I never noticed the tunnel clearance :D

Was your car an auto? Auto cars have a smaller shifter opening, and require some trimming.

Was an auto, trimming was done earlier. Not much but I could see the outline from the big rubber that goes over it where I had to trim.
i also have a short shifter, but what does that change?
The bolt holes that were further back on my tranny, were NOT even drilled and tapped. I had the tranny laying beside me for a couple weeks, but now the tranny was in the car. drilling and tapping while underneath the car, is a true bitch. especially with the angle it has!!
...but the motor is in the car and bolted up!::w00t::

Well if the shifter itself was hitting like going into 3rd for example the short throw would help with that in theory. I didnt know about the manual vs auto till now.
