New Raptor Racing Product: GoPro Hero Cameras

We've had a few folks ask us for these over the last little while so we decided to contact the manufacturer and set up an account. So far without even seeing the product we're thoroughly impressed by the level of service this company provides without even seeing $1; kudos to them.

If you’ve never seen them before the GoPro comes in a few configurations in both Normal and Wide Formats:
• Hero
• Helmet Hero
• Surf Hero
• Motorsport Hero

Since the majority of individuals on automotive related forums would be interested in the Motorsport Hero here is what GoPro has to say about it:

The Motorsports HERO Wide quick-release attaches to helmets, cars, motorcycles, boats, planes, etc. Features the industry's widest 170º wide angle lens and 5 megapixel sensor for the most immersive point of view video and photos possible from a wearable sports camera, period.

Sets up in seconds and is easily moved between different mount locations. Shoot 56 minutes of high-resolution video and 5 megapixel photos automatically in "Photo every 2 seconds" mode. Use as a hand held camera, too. Shockproof and waterproof to 100 feet/30 meters.

Based on the best selling original Motorsports HERO camera, the Motorsports HERO Wide features improved video, photo, audio, and low light performance. Reliability in ultra-high vibration environments has been improved with an entirely new internal circuit design. Battery life is improved to 3 hours of video record time when using Lithium batteries and 2 hours when using NiMH rechargeable batteries.

Five quick-release adhesive mounts and industrial strength suction cup are included. Suction cup is GoPro-approved for external high speed driving and riding, and is strong enough to pull dents out of a car door (unfortunately tested by GoPro). Adhesive mounts are removable but require purposeful removal by user. Safe on painted surface.

Additional expansion mounts available separately, including roll bar, handlebar/seatpost, chest harness, and surfboard mounts.

Bah. :( I was so excited today to get you some video, George! I used the suction mount to the lower driver's side fender on my M3, got some new LiOn batteries, loaded it up and went for an excellent drive down a twisty back road with NO traffic in front of me!

When I got home to upload the video, I realized that I forgot to put in my 2GB card, so it stopped recording before I even got out of my driveway! I'll see if I can hook you up tomorrow!

LOL, after I realized it, I got angry, then I just laughed. I was more upset because it's difficult to get that back road with no traffic, and I was really carving it out!

It's a beautiful drive in the summer, so you get people going 20mph during the day on it to check the scenery. I can't blame them, but it does get annoying! I'll see if I can get one tomorrow, amidst all the other crap I have going on.

I received all my parts today.The camera is saweet! :icon_bigg We did some pulls in Brad's car tonight and same, I forgot the card. lol Does it come with one? I haven't really looked it over.

Customer service is the best I've seen in a loooong time and then to top it off, the shipping time was awesome!

Thanks for the kind words Duane. The camera kits do not come with a memory card; www.ncix.com should be local to you; or just head over to any computer/electronics shop(future shop/best buy) and grab a 4GB SDHC Card. A 2GB card will also work well but for the price difference you can't go wrong with a 4GB. 2gb provides 56mins of video and 4gb provides 1hr 52mins of video. Thanks again for your business.

that's a pretty strong suction mount there, can you take a picture of the setup from outside the car ? Is there something to protect the len from flying debris.. (pebbles, suicidal bugs etc..?) kinda reminds me of getaway in stockholms ^___~

Yeah, it's nice for sure. :) I'll try to take some night video after I get my proper HID setup done. (retrofit) Stock e36 lighting leaves much to be desired. That back road is one my favorite place to drive. Every so often, there will be no other cars except me on it, and it's fantastic. I wish I could have recorded some video last time that happened, I really carved it out. It's also quite eye catching scenery. If I had gone right at the traffic light, the road gets even prettier in that direction. :)

The suction cup mount is ridiculous. Even stronger than the ones used to hold your GPS to the window. Seriously, I had my doubts at first, but after simply putting it on the side of the car, there's no way it's coming off! (unless you want it to)

The camera comes with a protective case that's waterproof and shockproof. It's mounted in that case for any time you've got it mounted/recording. I'll post some pics up of how I had it set up later tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for the comments. :)

I mounted mine on the side of Brad's car doing over 100 and stayed on with zero issues. :) (enclosed track of curse.) No video because I used wrong card. lol What batteries are you using shaeff? I use the NIHM rechargeable energizer.

PS: I plan to do a bit of footage and putting a compilation together but won't be just yet on Supra. I think I will need to get an extension mount later on too for wheel/brake videos! Will they be long enough George?

Got mine and decided to give it a shot.

I was doing some testing to compare stock vs. the Doward adapter/PBR setup.

This is a great little camera. Very light weight and mounts ANYWHERE! It has a water proof case so you can use it in the rain or underwater! For the purpose of this video, I mounted it to the driver's door. It hung on with no issues! Can't wait to use this at the track.

No they don't' currently make one. If I was a betting man I'd say they will come out with one but I can't imagine it will be in the same price range. For the price it really can't be beat IMHO.
