i need help

i have a 94 supra tt with a 98 j spec tt motor. it still has the usdm ecu and auto tranny. i have a few mods such as an fmic bov 3" staight exaust and i run the ttc (true twin conversion). my problem is that when i get on it it just pops and backfires alot and spews out black smoke and doesnt really go annywhere. when i hook the vsv's up the way it should be it doesnt boost at all. i think the wastegate may be stuck please let me know if anyone knows whats going on. thanks

i scanned it earlier today and engine code 42 showed up, i remember reading something on this site about a loose wire behind the dash as being the reason for this code if anyone knows anything i would greatly appreciate the help. thanks
