OK i know this has been discussed before but i cant search to find the info since the site was shut down. so on that note can some one please explain how you get the 1jz(4cyl) head on the 2jz(6cyl) block. and what needs to be done to get it in my 87? i just don't really understand the whole 1.5Jz and would really like to know how it works and what kinda power you get out of it.

oh geez...........

the 1jz IS a 6 cyl
the 2jz IS a 6 cyl

the 2jz bottom end bolts up perfectly with the 1jz head.

1JZ = 2.5L Inline 6 (86.0mm bore x 71.5mm stroke)
2JZ = 3.0L Inline 6 (86.0mm bore x 86.0mm stroke)

Using a 2JZ bottom end with the 1JZ everything else allows you an extra 500cc of displacement.

and still...people dont belive the cranks are the same as well...

the only thing different is the rods...the 1jz rods are litterlally shorter and the block height on the 1jz is shorter....allowing a physical 500cc displacement difference.

To my knowledge, the 1jz head flows better at lower RPM's than the 2jz...thus being a more repsonsive turbo motor.....so better for track use.

anyone want to battle the info on the crank? Go ahead..... :icon_cool

Umm... the length of rods can not change the displacement of an engine. It's simply not the way an engine works.

Displacement = Bore x Stroke x # of Cylinders

Tell me where you see rod length in there. Rod length only changes compression ratio. 1JZ has a 71.5mm stroke, 2JZ has an 86.0mm stroke.

I think you need to learn how an engine works, rod length changing displacement... LOL.

Rod length does not affect an engines stroke, only its RPMs and other things.

In a simple explanation, the longer the rod, the heavier the rotating mass, the less rpms... and a change in deck height / compression ratio & piston pop up.
