So I stumbled across this crimper:

From my understanding they should cost 10x that much! Is the range of pin sizes able to be crimped sufficient? I really don't know too much about Deustch connectors.

So IJ explained a few things too me which now are plainly obvious and how could you go past this thing. It looks exactly like the one we use at uni on the FSAE car which has made a fair few looms now.
Even if it made only one loom before turning to shit you would be ahead $30!

on another note.

Those D-Sub crimpers are cheap. At least here in the US they are. That model in particular cost about $30 us. Youy can get dedicated D-Sub crimpers from the likes of Astrotools or Daniels. Cost is in the $200 range for those but those crimp to very exacting standards.
