O.K I have intentions of getting a Trans from them. However I am not sure If I should just buy the Whole Trans for 3200 plus another 500 for the tc. Or just get the rebuild. I have full intentions of pushing the car however I am staying AUTO. period. I see the claims of up to 9.9 but is the complete trans over kill? I know a few of you guys have or have experience with them. What is the best route to take? I should be in the 550 hp range. May spray in the future a 125 maybe. If some of you guys can give me some info. Like do i need to send mine in to be rebuilt or do I just buy theres and send a core. Mine has about 100 miles on a STOCK rebuild from a very reputable trans shop here. But the BHG came the same week.
This car will see the strip at maybe 2 nights a month.

Will be interesting to see if you get any replies on this. It seems A340E tranny questions get skipped over like its some kind of military secret. Would love to see some info though.

I bought the kit for my wife's supra and it cost me about 600.00. I then paid a transmission shop 300.00 to rebuild it because I did the removal and install myself. I also sent my valve body to them to have it rebuilt. That cost me another 600.00. I bought a new or rebuilt stock torque converter off of ebay for about 150.00 and that was it. So in total I had.........
600.00
600.00
300.00
150.00
---------
1650.00..........You may want to spend more on a better torque converter. My wife races, but she isn't trying to run 9.9 in a quarter. Her car makes about 400rwhp for now, but I plan on installing my GT35r onto her car and giving it a little more kick. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. So the kit holds well I assume. No complications? No slipping?

Not intended for you I was posting the same time I guess. All I can do is ask the guys with knowledge. And go from there.

In no way is it overkill but at those power levels you'll be lucky for any Toyota trans to hold, much less an auto. Ask me how I know? I ate three autos before I went with a TH350 which I can't seem to break yet (crosses fingers). You need to search extensively and you will find some that have been able to keep the autos together around 400hp but I don't recall any that are pushing north of 500.
My advise to you would be to dump that money into a 5 speed swap with a good multi puck clutch and pray for the rear end and/or just get a big cooler for the rebuild you have and swap when it blows up (cause it will ::hang::)
sorry to be so pessimistic...........most will agree, some will probably disagree (flame suit on)

Thanks. I actually am in no way gonna use the stock rebuild. My machine work is paid for and now I am waiting on the finished product. I am gonna do the swap together. So it sounds there claims to a 9.9 capable auto is obsurd? I am not saying that I will be hitting those #'s but I would assume it could handle a 11 second car with a chance to crack 10's.
I just really don't want to leave the auto.

No not absurd necessarily, but the lifespan of the trans is my point; especially with repeated hard launches. Check this link from that other forum..... http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=217208

Is that the extent of the work done to the transmission if you buy a whole one from IPT? Or do they add a few other pieces as well?
I haven't heard any problems considering longevity by the few people who actually own a well built auto. Build it right and it'll last you years.

Well I called IPT today and talked to them. What you do is send them your tranny and TC. They have an extensive list of things they do like mill parts down to add extra clutches swap valve bodies etc more than just a rebuild with the parts they sell. There is custom work done. With the work they do he can get your stall up to 3800 if that's what you want. A little higher than what I want but then again not sure. He claims that the tranny should not have a problem holding on up to about 750hp. Then he recomends the GM upgrade. Said once he gets it it will be out in 5 days. Steep price but you get what you pay for. At least I hope for about $4000 out the door shipped with tax I wish I knew someone who had one.

Do you go to work for free, or do you get paid? What makes you think I owe you an answer. Or that anybody else owes you an answer for that matter.

You are misrepresenting what IPT claims. Not on purpose though I assume.
They don't claim great strength, or is it implied. They do claim to be able to make that trans as strong as it can be made, but if you push it, go domestic.
They don't claim to run 9.9. They claim don't try to run faster than that. That is a sign to club racers, or people that are especially hard on it, that this isn't for you.
A few here run it with out problems. Including one over 500 rwhp.

Tooquick4u runs his and it makes around 580rwhp I think. He's the one that made me believe in them so I ordered the kit from my wife. I didn't send them my transmission thoug. I just sent them my valvebody.
The Boostlogic autos for the MKIV's are about 3800.00 and I know a guy that runs his daily as his only car. He also runs 6.XX in an 1/8 on foot brake. He loves his auto.

Very good point. I see what you are saying. He did tell me that it is all or none with there builds. They don't do steps and it is the strongest it can be made. Guess it is a gamble that could be costly.

Ty at IPT is a great guy.
He has been working on a billet converter to fit my NA A340E for a few months now.
Not an easy project, since the 7M converter is an inch shorter then the 2JZ Mk4 converter.
The first prototype failed internally yesterday on the test stand,
but he hasn't given up.
Unlike some shops that I doubt test anything before they ship......
I also tried "Level less than 10".
They didn't get it even close,
and never read my build sheet,
and lied to me every single time I contacted them...........
Never ever again !!
I have an IPT built A340E and it more than meets expectations...I've done an 11.8 sec quarter with it ;) I would go with a 3000 stall if you plan on keeping it on the street. Depending on the turbo, you can still get a jump on building boost for a nice launch.

Thanks
So it is the complete build up? Or just the rebuild kit and valve body upgrade? I have a PTE67 not to sure I will be at high boost with that stall though. I don't want to high a stall or it becomes dangerous and a pain to drive. 3000-3400 is what I was thinking.
A complete build for me. I had the same concern for the stall RPM...3000 works well for my SP61 turbo.
