Later models were 5 speed, with gated shifters...

MKIV autos last quite a while, are they the same as SC300 autos?

so the question is 5spd auto trans `99 vs. 4spd auto trans `91
i`m guessing than newer (5sp auto `99) is better, more gears, better acceleration, has less miles...

searched the forums & fount that 400whp is maximum handling limit for the older auto trans.

I would imagine the a350e (5 speed) would have a closer spread of ratios but I haven't been able to track down a listing yet.

With my a340e I'm using a PCS controller and a 2800 Histall this allows me to program it to shift as a 6 speed ie: 1>2>3>3L>4>4L

Some info:
http://www.reanimotion.com/toymods/a350e%20automatic.htm

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_A_transmission#A650E (650 replaced the 350 in '98)

Might give you an idea of the ratios used.

Thanks John, saw those but as they didn't mention 350e ratio's specifically I ignored em ;)

I know the 350 can use the 7m 340 bellhousing and there are a bunch of better parts available for it.

Haven't really decided if it'll be an advantage though as mine has a nice smooth ratio spread shifting it as a 6 speed.
