View Full Version : suprakid24's build up round #2 (PICS)

The first time around that the build up really happened, I wasn't apart of the supramania community and I kept track of the progress on cardomain. But I think it would be easier to keep track of on here and I'm sure I will probably get more replies too, and that's always fun.

Right now the motor is in the process of being pulled thanks to some friendly crankwalk, and the plans are to beef up the internals and all the good stuff...

Update:

Yea it was a refurbished fresh motor, but we were thinking about going auto anyways so might as well do the rest while it's down :icon_bigg

They look really good on my dad's car, I always just stare at them... hopefully when I'm done with my car they will have the same effect

So here it is, the motor without the head. We had sent them 2 motors and one was to work on and one was to just check to make sure everything was good. They ended up knife edging the spare motor's crank, so they went ahead and did that one with no extra charge. So now we have the block assembled, complete with a knife edged crank, and a spare knife edged crank to go along with it - both 6M cranks. On with the pics... the head should be in later this week, and the car is going off for a 6 point roll bar tomorrow.

The tops and skirts of the pistons were coated at the machine shop, along with the head chamber and valves, cam bearing surface, main bearings, and rod bearings.

So... we have the motor back an and we are trying to get it to turn over but for some reason it won't. We aren't trying to start it, just trying to turn it with oil in it, but it won't crank over. We are thinking maybe it has something to do with removing the stock steering wheel, maybe something with the anti theft?

Apply a 12 volt source to the trigger on the starter. I do it all the time so I can turn over the engine while checking stuff under the hood when I am alone.

Yea we thought about doing that, but everything is hooked up already to where it should be turning with the key, so we were just trying to figure out why it wouldn't do it.

Did you make sure it turned over before you got it all together and in the car?

I always spin my engines several times through the engine building process...

but if your car just doesnt start, then i would pull it out and find the problem before you ruin this beautiful setup you have built.

No it's not that it wouldn't spin, the starter just wasn't getting any juice from the key being turned. Turns out that resetting the alarm (lock doors and unlock them with the key) was the trick, now it turns over with the key.

Drove the car to school yesterday, everything was going good except the transmission which decided to crap out on me. I was at a red light turning right and I put it in first while I was waiting and when I started to go POP the shifter popped out of gear and first was gone after that. Then I managed to make it to school starting off in second and even then second and third gear were whining real bad, fourth and fifth were ok or so they seemed.

Bad luck man! I had the same thing happen to my last tranny, when the first gear thrust washer broke, it put a lot of pressure on the 3rd gear hub and was hard to drive. Then 3rd gear just gave out because of the pressure.

You going to do the TH350 swap?

Yea it sucks... we were debating over and over about swapping and it is a hard choice but for now the R154 is going to stay in there, we have a spare to throw in there while we rebuild the other so I can keep the break in going.

Things that still need to happen:

Wire up the meth kit

Not sure about the tranny, the one in it is not very good, but at least it's not broken like the other one. Looking into the TH400 but that will have to be after TX2K9.

So we took my car to TX2K9, dyno'd at 496 hp, it definitely has more in it. We only pulled to 6k (built for more) and it was cutting out up top with the boost around 25.

http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh211/V8KLLA/TX2K9/TX2K9405.jpg

(The dude in the driver seat is not me BTW, they had someone drive it up for you. I was in the passenger seat logging.)

We were also fighting boost problems basically the whole first night of test and tune and the test and tune of the next day, it started making hardly any boost. Turned out that the coupler right off of the turbo had a whole in the back of it only letting me boost up to 10 psi. Thanks to the MVP booth we got another coupler and made things work. By time I got my car dialed in right, I got about 2 good passes, one of which was against Jay AKA suprahero. The whole time shifting from first to second was like hitting a brick wall then pulling the shifter through it, so those shifts were incredibly slow.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKebkFjTrOo&feature=player_embedded

Then, in the actual competition rounds I had a by run... and of course right after I did my burnout and rolled up to the tree it would not go into gear. I fought it, turned off the car and then it went in and I told the guy "hey its working now can I go?" He said "sure but your time won't count." So I started the car and then it would not go into gear again. We had to push my car off the track and back to the truck
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh211/V8KLLA/TX2K9/TX2K9607.jpg

Thanks to everyone who helped push my car off of the track and back to the truck - I know there were WFO guys pushing and jugodegolf was helping too, and thanks to Fred AKA bigdough666 for the pics of my car on the dyno and being pushed off the track. Thanks to my girlfriend Amber for the cool vids.

Hopefully those problems are going to be gone though, because it has arrived. TH350 w/ transbrake and full manual reverse valve body.

Craig, if you would, please make a list of everything you've bought and from whom you bought it. I may end up going this route before next year as well. I don't know for sure yet, but there's no way I can beat you with my five speed. Losing to the same person twice doesn't set well with me...........:biglaugh:

great build!

I guess you already know you have to trim off the BOP section of the plate. And also, you will need to modify the water pipe on the back of the motor to fit the bellhousing. Or, you can notch the bellhousing itself.

Good luck!

Craig, you're going to probably have to have the 3.73 or buy the 3.51's from Jawsgear or you'll be running about four grand everywhere you go.

Hey, Dave........how's your swap going? Is it finished yet. I haven't seen you post in a while. I'll have to go check it out.

Long time no post, my car has been together and now back apart again.

Story: Dyno tuning my car with built motor and th350, 530rwhp... several dyno pulls... end of a dyno pull and car dies.. start it back up and *chirp chirp chirp....*. Turns out it spun a rod bearing, the build continues.

Thanks, and yea I was waiting to see if somebody caught that on the dyno chart. Maybe that helped contribute to the rod bearing spinning? we're not sure.

I'm not real sure with the process, we have it at a shop for the work. I know he was block sanding it, idk if that helps answer your question though. That picture isn't the final sanding stage he has done more since then.

Damn Craig!!!!!!! That thing is awesome looking. It's going to suck having your car look better than mine and be quicker. It's not going to hurt my feelings that much now if you decide not to go this year...........:evil2:

I started sanding on mine today as well. I'm going to respray it before the Texas meet. Hopefully the trim isn't too hard to get off. I've never removed it, but I'm going to this time. I'm going to paint it myself, so I doubt it turns out as good as yours.

When I saw the eight grand on the dyno I just about passed out. Mine is built for it, but I'm too big a sissy to rev mine past 7500 rpm........:aigo:

The last time I dyno'd mine, it made 616rwhp and 569 rwtq. I"m hoping I don't break my R154 again. I dropped it off today at the transmission place and I'm hoping to have a spare with me at the texas meet just in case.

Except for the side skirts, your car is exactly like mine now. The black looks SOOOOOOOOO good on there.

Thanks Jay, that wing is the shine auto whale tail? I'm not sure how much different the low profile ones are, but that's the one I have. You know what's funny about the tail lights? The painter was just tinting them and I said eh one more coat and he did another and bam they were black lol. Not sure if they are going to stay like that or not, but I think they look good they grow on me, my only concern is how bright the tails are going to be.
