ok guys, my car doesn't want to start. Ill break it down so you people get the idea. the car was in a fire a year or so ago and the cause of the fire was the spark plug wires were woren out. It wasn't serious, just burned up alot of small things like, sensors, pipes and wiring harness. I replaced everything, brand new wiring harness and stuff. Only pipe that i don't have connected (cause i dont have it) is the small pipe that sits right under the stock bov pipe that connects to the accordion pipe and also a wire harness wire that suppose to connect to the top of the trans, i couldn't do it cause i never dropped a trans.
ok so when i turn the key to start the car, the car cranks up and wants to start but it doesn't. It started up yesterday for 3 secs and then died. I check the codes and i got code 24, so i replace the afm and now no codes.
But the car still doesn't want to start ??
There was old gas in the tank and i mixed it with new 3 gallon of gas.
Also i put new spark plugs, i took the only ones out. the new ones were like gapped 32 or 35 or something
Any idea why ??

Your getting good fuel? I think bad fuel is going to be a big player.
Getting spark.
That spark plug gap looks fine.

i m pretty sure i m getting good fuel. The tank was pretty 3/4 full with old gas, so i put in like 3 gallons of new gas to mix it up. When i tried to start the car, there was blueish smoke coming out of the exhaust and it smelled like engine burned smell.
i was ganna check all the sparks and see if i m getting spark, ill ground the plug to the valve covers.

Well since blue smoke means oil. Maybe you have an oil leak somewhere on the block? Also maybe it's your fuel pump that wont let you start your car. I'm having almost the same problem. I just replaced my head gasket but my car wont start. Do you hear your fuel pump humm when you try to turn on your car?

Check your main grounds that ground to the intake manifold side will cause similar symtoms

its not burning oil, i was told that if a car thats been sitting for a while tends to do that. I just don't understand why its not starting. Yes my fuel pump is working. i m getting fuel. i m ganna check all my fuses again, grounds and everything today.

use some fuel stabalizer.

I'm always wary of using old fuel. If the tank was 3/4 full, then mixing in 3 gals. is still quite a high % of old. I'd drain the tank and put in fresh...old gas can do bad things to the lines. gl.

i want to take the old gas out but the drain plug is stuck in there and i can't get it out and i don't want to force it out cause i have feeling i m going to fuck it up good. i m going to see if i m getting spark first, if thats gud, i m ganna move on to gas.

Check your codes again. That BOV pipe vents back into the system post AFM, so I would assume it is accounted for. Not to mention you are probably sucking in quite a bit of unmetered air through the hole, if you don't have it blocked off. Block that off, and try again.

Need help!!!!!!!!!!11111one11! is NOT a proper thread title. If you really expect help you might try something like. "car wont start with missing hoses and wires" or "the varnish in the tank that was gasoline doesnt burn" then you might be able to expect a little more help!!!!!!111!!11one
hint, my suggestion for whats wrong is hidden somewhere in this relpy ;)

I just checked for spark, this is a new plug that i had put in, its a bosch plug and wires, when i pull the plug, the plug was black, not oil though. i know what a oil plug looks like.
When we checked for spark, the spark was orange, not sure what that means, my neighbor ground the plug on the valve cover screw if that makes any difference. I m going to pull out all the gas the old fashion way with a long pipe cause the drain plug is been a bitch!

grounding the spark plug wire to the cam cover bolt is hardly exact and if done wrong can actually damage your coil if Im not mistaken. Use a spark tester, costs about $5 at autozone and you can dial in the proper gap. Weak spark can foul plugs pretty fast.
fonz87
08-18-2008, 02:07 PM
i didnt ground the spark plug wire, i grounded it with the spark plug in the spark plug wire, so the spark is coming out of the spark plug, not the wire. get what i m saying ??
Facime
08-18-2008, 02:41 PM
yes, that is better but sometimes its hard to get a good ground by just pressing the threads against the cam cover bolts...at least without ending up shocking the shit outta yourself, lol.
I still recommend the spark tester as you can dial the gap in and out to test just how strong the spark is. Its a subjective test but if your spark fails with just a small increase in gap it might tell you you have a problem in the system. As it was you state the spark was orange and thats not hot enough, but based on the testing proceedure I would say its inconclusive.

Check your CAM position sensor wiring. The green or newer ones the grey plugs will corrode over the many years these cars have been on the road. I soldered mine together and never had an issue again. Try to wiggle the plug and start the engine again.

alright i checked everything and i m getting a code 14 now. I thought my spark plug wires were put in wrong so this is how i connected them from left to right on the coil pack(after searching), tell me if i m wrong.
left to right. 16 34 25 .............. 1 is connected to cylinder one, 6 is connected to cylinder 6, and so on.
is this right. ??? Also what is code 14, i looked it up and it says Ignition Signal, what can be bad ??

Your wire from the wiring harness may be going bad. Look up Idealsupra's thread "Car not starting randomly" for a fix on that.
fonz87
08-20-2008, 01:02 PM
my wiring harness is brand new, its not even a month old.
I suggest you check the igniter itself, a good ground for the igniter (the bracket is the ground...not the best), and the wires from the igniter to the coils (correct order too).
fonz87
08-20-2008, 03:05 PM
wait wut ?? igniter to coils in order ?? what do you mean ?? i originally had the spark plug wires from the coil to the plugs 1-5-3-6-2-4 from left to right on the coils, but searching on the forums, i found out that it is 16 34 25 so i changed it yesterday and i got the code 14, so i m guessing the computer got confused and gave me this code so i remove the EFI 15a fuse for 30 secs and now its gone, so i m about to go try it and see if it' starts up.
There's 3 connectors on the coil pack end from the igniter...there's a specific order. The longest goes to the most distant coil, middle connector to middle coil, etc. It should be very difficult to get this wrong, but you never know around here ;)
Do check the igniter wires to each coil, you may have bumped one loose when you changes spark plug wire order.
fonz87
08-20-2008, 06:18 PM
yea those are correct, its commen sense the longest goes to the farthest coil, ill re check everything. i m just a little to annoyed. i wanted this thing running before chi2k8 but i guess i won't now.

Ok, after checking everything, i've been getting this weird noise from the motor everytime i tired to start the car. ignition and all the other things are fine.
This is the video noise, it sounds like something is holding the motor down or something.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/fonz87/th_MVI_1607.jpg (http://s5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/fonz87/?action=view¤t=MVI_1607.flv)
This is with the EFI 15A fuse out. This is how the motor should sound like when it is trying to start.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/fonz87/th_MVI_1608.jpg (http://s5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/fonz87/?action=view¤t=MVI_1608.flv)
Also this wire in not connected, it suppose to connect to the top of the tranny but i've never dropped a tranny so i didn't want to mess anything up.

Anyone know the noise ???

Your CPS is off by 180 Degrees. It's firing the wrong cylinders.
What you need to do is this.
Step 3.
http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/IG/IG_021.gif
Step 2
http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/IG/IG_024.gif
You're Welcome.
Simple Explanation: It needs to be set to the point where you cylinder one is about to fire, as opposed to dead. ;)
You may also want to get a timing light and see where you stand ignition timing wise.

well basically, i took the cps out and put the piston to TDC by taking the oil cap off and looking at the oval thing pointing upwards and then installed everything back on, cps and wirings and shit and turned the key and boom, fired up right away, to cranking it or anything. sounds very nice and everything i m very happy, just in time for CHI2k8 Ahaha. so yea. thanks everyone for the help. ill try to post a video up in the build thread which needs to be updated now.
