Need help! Trans problems.

Hi all,

Have a slight problem. I'm about 6 HR away form home at the Montreal supra meet, and my Aristo auto trans went south.

It's the same as the A304 pretty much as it's a 1991 aristo... Anyways, basically the car will be driving fine then all of a sudden will not hold the gear i'm in. If i press the gas nothing happens, and if I'm going below 35MPH it will then catch again at 4k but will not shift gears like it's stuck in 2nd.

When this problem occurs I can bearly get moving form a dead stop and if I turn off the car and start it again it may work for a little while.

There where no previous symptoms of the problem previously. It feels like trying to turn a stripped nut... (best way I can discribe it)

Oil level is good a little brown but not super dirty.

Any ideas or clues? Can i trigger a limp mode to make it home?
I should also add that when i rev it in Park i hear some wierd noise form the trans almost like a power steering rack that doesn't have any fluid.

Only thing i can think of is the filter is cloged?

I wish I could help Eric, but I can't. Does resetting the computer help any? Can you manually shift it at all and make it start out in first instead of second or third, whichever one it's starting out in? Good luck.

Is it throwing any transmission codes? If it is, I can look them up for you here if you don't have access to the tsrm.

i think it's throwing trans codes... it has to be because when i turn it off and on it works... I think the coverter isn't getting fluid and it's going in to limp mode and throwing the code which causes the trans to stick in 2nd.

smell the fluid, does it smell burnt/really bad?

not really that's the thing I think it's the pump i';m sure it's not getting pressure.

its not the same car as yours, but i had a completely similar problem in my DD grand am, dunno what caused it, but it would shift a lil weird till the car warmed up, then it wouldnt get out of 2nd like yours, i changed the fluid out and still did it, ended up the trans completely burned out, threw no codes, had to get a new trans for the car in the end.

Is the noise you hear like a metal grinding noise? Mine makes that noise is park as well and only in park. When was the last time the trans filter was serviced?

trans was never serviced its only 100km 60k miles, no codes, but I know it wont rev pass 4000 when in drive something is limiting it.
