View Full Version : Vi-PEC PNP for 2JZ

Just what we need, more options right? I have been very impressed with this setup so far, enough so that I am going to offer it in a PNP package for the 2JZ Supras (7M guys, if you want to ditch your multiplex ignition than this will include you also). VVTi engines are also supported, ask if you have any questions!

Supra PNP including 4Mb logging, 3.5 or 5 bar MAP, AIT sensor, CAN/USB cable, and my PNP harness $2950

You will want to add a wideband as well, and any unit with a 0-5V output will suffice. Ignition is direct fire, no need for a DLI. Injector drivers are peak/hold!

The only option not included is: DBW throttle control, $270.00 to enable (does not include throttle pedal/throttle body, obviously).

Support for Reluctor and Hall effect crank and cam sensers.

Camshaft & crankshaft sensor inputs individually software configurable for hall effect & reluctor sensor types. Response speed is also software configurable for improved noise immunity.

Eleven general purpose digital Inputs with logic level sensitivity & pull up to +5volts. Usable for speed measurement. Switch I/Ps. Four are usable for Camshaft position measurement.

Knock control with support for two sensors.

Variable Camshaft control for up to four camshafts. VANOS and other VVT and VVT-i supported.

NTC or PTC air temp sensors, software selectable.

External 2.5 bar or 7 bar map sensor, software selectable.


Stepper motor idle control, two and three wire idle control.

Support for most idle valve type including 2 wire, 3 wire & stepper possible. Stepper pins can be used for spare outputs if not used for idle control.

E-Throttle (DBW, Fly by wire) option. No external controller required. The throttle control is built into the V88.

Digital Trigger Decoding.
Reluctor, Optical or Hall Sensors.

Dedicated idle control with additional settings for better adaption to changing operating condition and a more stable idle.
Dedicated Closed loop boost control, and other settings for stable boost pressures. A/C compressor control.

General purpose control modules for O/P control. (use for variable fuel pump, power steering, inlet manifold air valves, extra temperature control devices etc) some of these are capable of PID feedback control.
Mapping via manifold pressure, throttle position, manifold and throttle or manifold.
Fly by wire throttle control will full control over the settings and operation.

Looks like the software is easy to use. I was looking at the IS300 base map and it lit up a light bulb in the back of my head! Im working on two IS300's right now. I may be in touch. I like that it has knock control, specially for the Lexus guys. They love pump gas and love boost!

I came across this thing the other day while looking at Link ECUs. I just wish it had traction control which I guess is a feature not all PNP applications can take advantage of otherwise it is sweet!
How is the upgrade for drive by wire added, can it be added after purchase?

It has launch traction control already, up to a certain speed (around 50mph if memory serves) with full traction control coming down the road. A lot of the PNP kits do not directly take advantage of it as I do not know of a single OEM that runs all the wheel speeds into the engine controller directly (save for some of the newest stuff out). The Supra kit will have an add on setup available, that allows the use of the factory wheel speed sensors for TC but will require a tiny bit of wiring.

DBW is an enable code that can be entered at any time. Then you just have to decide on the components and we make sure to test them (if they haven't been already) for the proper settings.

We could look into a kit if you do a lot of IS stuff. The testing on the IS was actually done with the V44, the baby brother to the V88 kit shown above. The kit would be quite a bit cheaper, but features group fire injection and waste spark and does not feature the knock control shown above. However I would be inclined to setup the kits using the V88 unless someone is really on a budget.

I will be doing an intro price for the Supra kit at $2795. Let me know if you guys have any questions! For the really budget concious, we can delete the onboard 4mb logging and save $70.00. This will leave you with just logging with your laptop connected.

Hey John,

We spoke a while ago on SF. I know you've been busy, but have you had time to work with this EMS a bit more? Do you feel that it is a good replacement for AEM?

It seems like this is a mid range solution, somewhere between AEM and Motec. All the features sound great, what is the traction control like compared to something like RaceLogic's TC?

I will be running an in-car computer system which would be great with the USB cable for this. I assume with this, I could get away with not having many gauges in the car as everything should be passed over the USB link I assume?

This winter I will be replacing the stock JDM twins with the upgraded kit from Speed4Sale, along with all the other bits (FMIC, Injectors, etc). I would like to have a 2, possibly 3 maps. One less aggressive map for daily driving for improved mileage, and another for performance (94 octane, with possible meth injection, haven't thought too much about that yet)

My car, being JDM, the stock injectors are high impedance, but obviously when I upgrade to low impedence (most likely 650cc's) injectors, this EMS will work fine as it has inbuilt peak/hold? With AEM, I know you had to get a separate P&H driver, if your car previously used high impedance.

All in all, this sounds like a great solution for someone looking for a bit more stability and features than AEM, at a couple thousand cheaper than the Motec.

The kit is in testing now, with at least 200 miles on it so far and working great! I will try and get some pics/video up next week, as I am heading out on a trip again soon.

The injector drivers are peak/hold, so no need for a seperate driver box/resistor box.

I have not had a chance to fully test the TC, but will report as soon as I do. It will be at least as good as the RL TC, with a bit more flexibility.

would this system be able to work with the 06-08 IS? IS250 specifically. I think that they're drive by wire.

Well you are inluck

the Vi-PEC V88 has E-Throttle (Drive by wire Throttle, Electronic Throttle Control).

DBW is nothing more than a quick acting servo with redundant channels ;)

What that means is, that anyone can retrofit DBW to thier cars with this option too. See my LS2 DBW thread for parts ;)

That's awesome. The only thing that I've been told would work is ProEFI. this may be something I have to start looking into doing soon....but I have to concentrate on one car at a time now though...

Geez.... lol

MoTeC has been DBW since it introduced the Mx00 series ecu 4 years ago. ProEFI the only one? Seriously? I am afraid to ask who passed that information on to you.

FCON does not run DBW. They simply build their kits to let the factory ECUs do the task.

I just got a ViPEC V88 to replace my problematic AEM. Looking forward to getting it and getting it wired up.

Well I now have my car running on the ViPEC V88. I have also installed LS1 coils under the factory coil cover, you would never know there their.

I will post pictures in the next day or two of the custom harness out of the car and installed as well as the coils.

Yes I can, I went though 3 years with an AEM and I am so glad I have it behind me. My unit went back to AEM 2 times and the 2nd time they sent me an entirely new unit, the day I got it back was the day I sold it.

I will never run and AEM EMS on anything again. My AEM had chronic timing creep and the drivability was not good at all. I have driven some AEM cars that are ok but as they say 60% of the time AEM works every time.

For the price I think the ViPEC V88 is the best on the market and good competition to a few systems that are quite a bit more $$.

The cold start and idle control of the ViPEC make the AEM look like a SDS. All the features of the ViPEC trump the AEM as well. Closed loop Idle and boost control, Proper traction control is on the way and will not cost any more money. The Auto tune works awesome (if you know how to tune a car) and the sequential inj and spark are also leaps and bounds above the AEM.

The other big difference is the Peak/hold injector drivers and USB communications.

I may sound very anti AEM but after an unexplained engine failer on one cylinder that melted its self (injector tested fine and there was no other fault found). At one point I felt saving the money on the AEM would be a good idea but after all the hassle and the 3 years battling with the AEM the best thing I did was sell it. Since having the Vipec installed in January of this year we have got it running way better than it ever had on the AEM. I am able to drive to the corner store with out the lap top in the car and have no problems at all. The AEM would always have some sort of problem (high idle, would turn off for a few seconds and back on again). The response from AEM was open the unit and make sure the Chip is seated right, not my idea of acceptable.
